Car was bought in for shifter sticking in gear. #1 cause is a rusted transmission input spline, which causes the disc to drag against the flywheel:

A broken damping plate in the clutch disc doesn't help either notice the bluish part sticking out of the disc. The transmission was obviously out before, and this part is usually streesed by trying to cheat the tranny out of the car by not lowering the subframe. Note the sanding marks on the pressure plate too, from someone trying to "polish" it. Note the rust in the disc spline too:

Dang!

Is the rust problem on all cars, or just something on this one due to mis-installation?

Bill the tips you gave me helped out big time! The tip with the 6mm hex key is golden.. I was able to extract all the driveshaft bolts except for 1 that stripped by slipping the wrench and punchin the underside of the car!

It can be a problem on all, depending on the amount of grease originally installed from the factory.

Damn, that clutch looks like you left it outside for a few years. My clutch looked brand new when it came out.

Cluth and trans are in, few more hrs of buttoning up tomorrow. The transmission/engine alignment dowels were missing as well, another way to break the clutch and cause lots of vibration. Sad yo
