Default Weak Handbrake

Does anyone experience that with their S2000?
I just parked my car outside my driveway for awhile. I has only a slight slope so that it will edge ever so slowly fowads in neutral... Came back 5 mins later and it slid into the garden! It totally scraped the underside of my new J's RAcing FRont Lip and I am greatful it was'nt any worse than that! When I checked again the handbrake was all the way up except for the final "click" to maximum. Scary stuff!
Should I ask Honda to check it out under warranty? Is this covered under warranty? My brakes and suspension is all stock.

Were your brakes warm? The handbrake can loosen while the disc is cooling, just ask Davepk about it.

Also, are you rear pads worn? I just replaced mine and noticed that the hand brake is much tighter than it was.

I always park my car in gear (1st) + hand brake. It never goes anywhere.

Pull up the console top to get to the adjustment. Mine was the same way until I adjusted it.

Just using first gear, is normally enough, unless you are parking on a steep hill.

My mechanic taught me to do this; no more rear brake pads rusted to the rotors.

My hand brake is so tight that I can't even pull away in first gear with it on, so not much chance of the car slipping away ........

I don't like parking and leaving the car in gear, if you forget that it is in gear or if someone else starts it and doesn't know, you can end up hitting whatever is in front of you when the car lurches forward

there is nothing wrong with s2k hand brake design. there are a couple possibilities i can think of. you may need adjustment for your hand brake, or you burned your drum brakes. most hand brakes still use drum system inside rear disks. if you forgot to disengage your hand brake while driving, you could have ruined your drum brakes. try the adjustment first, that should fix your problem. one other thing, hand brakes should be used regularly because it has a self-calibrating system that adjust itself every time you engage the hand brake. if you used your hand brake infrequently, it could be out of adjustment after a while.

You cannot start this car with the clutch out so you would not be able to accidentally lurch anywhere while trying to start it. I think most driving schools teach students of stick to park it in gear AND to use the hand brake. This is the same rationale for why motorcycle students are taught to use the key AND the kill switch when turning off the bike. You get use to the action and should the need arise to use that control, it is second nature.
