Hello everyone.

First of all, thanks moonpie for hosting these photos.

This was brought up before-> Can you change the color of the digital read out?
The answer seems to be yes upon looking inside of the dash.

First of all, getting to the dash isn't really a walk in the park, but it isn't overly difficult.
I didn't do it myself but rather I left it to the professional, my trusty mechanic.
It seems that in order to detach the dash you need to lower the steering rack.
You may have to remove the steering wheel with airbag but you don't have to since my mechanic was able to do it without removing the steering wheel.
Once the digital dash is pulled out you can easily snap open the front frame to open.

See the photos below, the color patterned plastic panel is responsible for colored illumination. I suppose if you change this you will get the corresponding colors.

I am not too crazy about changing the color but for those of you who would like to, now there is a hope.

In about couple of weeks, I will test it out and share with you folks.
Good thing is that I have a spare dash to fool with so I don't have to go through repeat install, remove procedure.

Whether how good this will work out, I don't know. But I would give it a try at least.

Hmm, I will try green, blue or purple, yellow.
Ok anyone want to pre-order your custom color panel?

Wow, that's great info randy. Maybe there is hope.. I'd definitely like a blue (VW type) scheme to go with my head unit, vafc, and assorted goodies. Keep us informed!

That is something that I am definitely interested in doing. But from the looks of the pictures, I am still a little lost in terms of changing the color.

Randy,

Excellent info...I'm glad someone finally decided to find out if it was really made of colored one-piece LEDS or not. Can you tell what the display is made of (maybe seperate LCD elements?)? If it's LCD elements, we can swap out the illumination for a white light and have a whole spectrum of colors just by editing the plastic cover. I would suggest using an inkjet printer on a piece of acetate...that way you can even make multi-color displays (say, it's blue below VTEC, and red above)

Thanks guys,

It is lcd panel and backlighted against the colored plastic piece to give colored digital read out.

Of course, I need to independentally power the dash so I can see how it is worked or lighted but that is going to take some time. I will experiment when I have some time off from work.

I just want to share with you interested folks that there is a good possibility that you can easily tinker with the color of the digital readouts on the dash.

I wish I can dedicate full time on my car to find things out for you guys quicker but I can't at the moment. But you can bet that I will experiment for you guys soon with the help of local electronics gurus.

Stay tuned for more info and findings.
