Digital dash, possible to change colors!
beyond cosmetically(or is it asctetically?), which is great, how about this.
have a changing color scheme so that it indicates the region of rpm range; for example
blue 0-6500rpm or at vtec change over, green 6600-7500, yellow 7600-8500, purple
8600-9000, red 9100/rev limiter.
i have a 4 light sequential rev light that goes green-yellow-yellow-red. but i prefer
the same unit with 4 red lights only because they go from clear to red and thus avoid false illumination if backlit by the sun. (the green and yellow are that color before lighting).
but what i really want is a slick HUD like in the C5, but only want it for MPH and shift
indicator, that would tickle my testicles, oh yeah.

When you said Heads Up Display I didn't exactly think C5, i was thinkin more F-16 but whatever floats your boat... er tickles your testicles. Anyways, this could possibly be the cheapest most time consuming mod ever. I still want it. Mike
Sorry people for let this thread not updated.
I've been little too busy for playing with this. But I will promise I will soon either play with this myself or pass the torch to someone who is much competant.
Let me try to give you more info on how the dash is working underneath.
I forgot to take the underneath picture of the color pattern plastic.
Underneath the plastic are 5 bulbs spread out to give illumination.
As you can somewhat see from the photo above, the plastic isn't opaque and it is somewhat semi-transparent which light can shine through.
And opposite side of the plastic has some intricate diffuse pattern where the bulbs are to make the illumination somewhat shine through evenly.
Further it makes it complicated by applying the color patterns on both side of the plastic.
When the dash is active, these lights will be on permanently and
the actual LCD is right underneath the outer glass housing and it works as mask to
display whatever needed.
I will take additional photos soon to show how it looks underneath later. Please be patient for that.
Meanwhile, can any of you show me the pic of VW dash illumination?
Anyway, we need to start with separate plastic to make the color change work. Since I don't think you can ever just order that plastic piece from Honda.
More to this later,
Feel free to chime in and add suggestions or ideas.

it's a great idea to be able to change the gauge color, but it's not gonna be cheap or easy. to remove the gauge assembly, you will need to remove airbag, steering wheel, steering column covers cable reel and combination switch assembly according to Helm's. the cost of labor alone probably will range $200-$300. and it's really not a job for the casual home mechanics. personally, i dont think any color is worth that much money or trouble. jsut my 2 cents.
