Default Cars not pulling like it use too

Hey,

I put on a post about a strange thing that occurred to the S. In brief, after putting my foot right down on the accelerator pedal, the car would take almost an eternity to react before shifting off. This was at any revs, and at any gear. Vtec was engaging correctly etc etc etc.

So I done a search to find out the cause and possible solution. I

you need someone who's had map sensor 'issues'.

i think that makes the car stutter from what i've read. never had a problem with mine. it is an intermittent problem usually. they're not expensive (in the scheme of things - hardtopguy does em) but i suggest you fiddle about, clean the connections etc..

other than that there is a fuse you can pull to reset your ecu

Ive done lots of map fiddling, and reset the ecu around three times so far.

I know the maps are only around

It does sound like the MAP sensor issue I had TBH.
Try pulling the plug and lightly cleaning the contacts with some fine wet-&-dry before replacing and resetting ECU. That worked for me.

IIRC,

Euan had a similar weird performance problem and it was a corroded wiring loom.

Try the MAP first.

Ok, so it feels fine on VTEC but not before it?

Im not totally sure that is a MAP fault, the MAP takes over the fuelling from the lambda sensor when you either go into VTEC or you have your foot flat on the floor (WOT or Wide Open Throttle) the ecu then uses default fuel maps and adjusts slightly using the following sensors:

MAP / TPS (throttle pos sensor) AIT (air intake) Knock sensor

If it was sluggish just on part throttle my bet would be the lambda sensor, as when these fail they cause the ECU to overfuel badly and the car bogs down.

Edit - the MAP is also used on part throttle in conjuction with the lambda, as this is a more efficient way of fuelling, so it could well be this.

Can you give any other info?

(edited to correct myself)

Another obvious one but check there's nothing stuck in the airbox.

Always remember a guy on scoobynet reporting his car was performing like a dog. He eventually discovered a dead squirrel stuck in his intercooler

Air induction is fine and clear. The Problem only seems to happen on full throttle. At all other times the car goes perfectly well. Its more when i floor it that i notice the flat spot.

Ive had no cel either....help!

So its just full throttle building up to VTEC, and on VTEC its fine?
