600+ hp ?
Ok so i'm new to the whole S2K thing, I love the car but i'm used to big hp mopars. My friends all drive Gt2 and turbo carreas so i'm a little under powered I am deffinitley going too have to make a few mods to keep up. $$ aren't the issue as this car is relitivley inexpesive compared alteritives. It would be great fun to put a little whoop a$$ on those boys. I just need to make car reliable and very very fast. I know I need turbo but what else in order to keep her together. What can I expect from 600+ hp as far as reliability, where should I start with this car. Thanks in advance for your input.
Honestly, I don't like to be the one to bring the bad news - however I don't feel "reliability" "600+ hp" and "turbo" belong in the same post.
I'd start off by researching through the boards - if I am not mistaken we currently have 3 S2000 Owners that are over 600whp :
Arnold @ 602whp
Alex @ 618whp
Jay @ 704whp
To keep their privacy, I have refrained from posting their online names.
To start off, I'd highly recommend a full build - perhaps contacting Laskey Racing. A few members here worked with him, so far I have yet to hear a complaint.
Then you will need to look into a useful turbo kit - you have plenty of choices here. You can go with LoveFab, Full-Race, Inline Pro, or even Ultimate Racing.
There are numerous minor things to consider as well - once you get the turbo kit and motor built. Things such as traction issues and suspension - you will need a way to put that power to the ground. At 600+hp, its safe to say the stock clutch isn't going to hold up - so you will need to look into one of those. Once you get past that, then you may want to be aware that the S2000 has a weak rear end - not many high horsepower cars that are driven hard keep differentials very long. If you are more gentle, it will last longer - however if you are a hard driver, it won't.
These are some things for you to consider... best of luck!

wow you said $$ are not an issue? I wish i could say that...I think you could do it with a budget of $25K. But reliability is always a concern. I change motors left and right along with clutches...it adds up there.
As others have suggested do some searching. You will need some of the following items:
sleeved block with rods and pistons
built head with valves, springs and retainers
manifold
down pipe and full exhaust
at least a GT35R or higher
EMS
Intercooler and piping
Rear end conversion
stronger axles
twin disc
modded transmission
upgraded fuel system and lines
wastegate, bov, boost controller
I'm sure I forgot other stuff too. Best Wishes with everything.

Thanks guys this is the kind of info i'm looking for. I understand stuff will brake I just don't want a time bomb that can't be driven on the street. I won't be abusing the car I will however drive the car hard on occassions, but not really doing any drag racing or high rpm dumps. Mostley 40-50mph roll ons and not likeley any top end running. To old for all that, been through the suspended licence stuff before. Just playing with friends, we do go to the track and play sometimes but not drag racing with these cars. I just don't want to be anouther Z06 running around town. What hp mark seems to start the crazy breakage. Thanks Bob
Crazy breakage depends on driving style. With a motor build and taking it easy, everything should be good for about 500 whp. After that, I would consider upgrading your differential. As long as it's primarily roll ons, your transmission should last fairly well. A GT35R should get you to about 600 whp. A GT40R or other larger turbo will be necessary for more than 600 whp. I'd bet that you'll spend $25-$30k by the time you're done.

The way I figure it my wife can't say no I didn't buy the 911 and I have sold the bigger of the two boats, I also had to quit skydiving due to a couple of knee surgries so time is right to play with the car. Besides I bought a used 02 with low miles and figure that even if I put 30k in car I still only have 50k in high hp sports car which is cheap as sports cars go. Also I paid my dues being the young broke kid with nothing but a car its 20yrs later and I can finally build what I want the right way. All you young guys your time will come.
