Default Tango Needs a new gearbox

Had a whining noise for a while now, thought it was the wheels or the wife but never managed to locate it. Anyway here I am getting the car serviced, Jorge has done his bit and then we go to check out the noise; On the ramp with the apprentice at the wheel, four guys underneath trying to check where the noise is comming from. It's comming from the rear of the gearbox and theirs confirmation from one of the chief mechanics, "it's the motion bearing".

So what does that mean? Basically a lot of labour to strip down the gearbox and replace or a new gearbox.

I have 23k on the clock, the car has never been tracked and the gearbox oil gets changed every two years. This car get looked after and the box is fooked. I am pretty dissapointed. When big things like this go wrong I loos faith in a manufacturer.

Anyway they are going to check with Honda as to if this can get sorted because its an exemplary car with such a low milage. It only gets drivern at weekends. Not building my hopes up though, so I now need to find a similar milage gearbox and get it replaced. Jorge reckons theres about two days worth of labour involved too

Yes it is out of warranty and no I didn't get it extended. The car is four years old and is in excellent condition. Whats the point when it does seven thousand a year in good conditions.

Under warranty ? If not maybe consider sourcing a second hand box and having a word with Mr Franklin regarding the fitting.

Would surely be far cheaper than going through Honda and the job will be done with exacting precision if Chris is involved.

Don't want to state the obvious but if Honda won't play ball why not just get the bearing replaced. It's bound to be cheaper than a gear box. You still have to take the box out. take it to a specialist and get it rebuilt or at least get a price.

I've looked at the manual - there is no way it's two days labour to swap a box in the S2000.

Warranty or not, surely a gearbox in a low mileage fully serviced and unabused car should reasonably be expected to far exceed 23k miles.

The words 'Fit for purpose' springs to mind.

Surely Honda must have some legal responsibility to sort this out.

I have been told by Jorge that it would be two days to sort out the bearing. Sorry me getting confused.

Just had a quote for an 18k gearbox

John, Crown are going to see if they can get Honda to replace it FOC, I'm not hedging my bets though so I am a little dissapointed at the mo.

Oh and I have had two people come up to me asking about the car

gutted.. well lets just hope Honda pull it out of the bag.

My boss had the cambelt go on his 147 GTA - made a terrible mess of the engine and was looking at a lot of money to repair.

It was out of warranty with full service ~30k miles. Cambelt was not due to be changed until I think 60K.

Alfa paid for all the work (

That is stupid. 23k miles and the gearbox is failing. I think it must have been a faulty box/part to start with. Others are managing 100k plus and no problem with their box.

I feel for you mate.

If you go the Chris Franklin way I have a cunning plan
