The right answer is 150 x 150 pixels and it must be no larger than 50 KB. Alternative, you can upload a photo in your S2KI album and select it as your avatar. The size of the photo will be compressed and reduced as your new avatar automatically. However, I would suggest to resize your photo before uploading to achieve a better quality.

I don't think that is true anymore. The allowed file size went from 24kb to 50kb yet the viewable size shrunk. 150x150 is not the size you're getting when you look @ your avatar. It is 100x100. If you change your avatar right now, it will be smaller than the previous, energetic. My avatar file size is 6.4kb & was bigger last week. A member came to me about how small his new avatar was from the previous. I experimented with his & he was right. I reverted to my same avatar & it is smaller now.

Well, if you try to upload ie the 10 year avatars which are 150 x 150 pixels, you won't have an issue. They will maintain their original size. As far as I know that is the limit when uploading an avatar.

I don't know how the system compresses an image though. Perhaps it depends on the original size of the image. For example, an image of 300 x 300 pixels could be reduced (ideally) to 150 x 150, while your avatar in this case of 240 x 239, is reduced to 100 x 100 pixels.

Trust me - something has changed. My avatar is the same file it was a week ago & now it is smaller than it was before after re-uploading it Wednesday.

Why don't you resize it to 150x150 and then upload it?

The size has been changed to 100x100. This is to accommodate upcoming changes to the layout which will make sense in a few weeks. You can use the personal photo in your profile to upload a larger personal image.

Sorry for the confusion.

PS> This only applies to new uploaded avatars. Old ones are still the same size. I will resize them all once the upgrade is complete before it goes live.
