Default SOFTTOP TEAR

Does anyone know a good clear sealant that might fix a small tear in my soft top? The tear is on the very bottom of the plastic window and runs along where the plastic window meet the black rubber looking part on the softtop. The tear is only about .5"

Do you think this might be covered in a extended warranty? I'm thinking that they just might call this a wear and tear issue.

thanks for any help anybody might have.

Extended warrantees lately, have been found to be quite worthless, especially if you have changed ANYTHING on your car. (Read the fine print.) No harm in asking but don't be too disappointed if they tell you NO. Should this be the case, you can get some black silicone seal. This will seal the hole but might not look so good. Of course, there's black duct tape.

Harbor Freight has a vinyl repair glue (could not find it in the online catalog, it's in the auto section in the store) that is durable if applied correctly. I don't think they have a store in Hawaii. If you do a google search for "vinyl roof" repair glue you will find something.

I have multiple tears in my roof just behind each door that I have repaired with this glue. The repair even handles the top going down and up on a regular basis. I'm cheap and want to make my top last another year.

The guy I bought my car from did not have a garage so the top has taken lots of sun abuse here in Arizona.

The tear that I'm talking about isn't on the black part. The plastic window is separated from the black part on the very bottom of the window.

I do have the tears in the top that you just talked about Random1 and I will go and look for the glue that you just told me about. Thanks

I think the same vinyl glue (clear) would work well to fix the window as well.

I was succesful in getting a brand new soft top under extended warranty. I had a small hole by the passenger's side latch (.25 inch). Honda Care turned me down at first so I called Honda Customer Service and they eventually approved it. The top should be here any day now. Its worth a shot giving the warranty a shot. A 4 year old top isn't going to get any better. A brand new one will be good for at least another 4 years. Just remember to keep using the term "defect". And don't be surprised if they tell you they've never heard of a problem with the tops tearing or having holes. One guy even got 75% of a new top paid for without an extended warranty on a MY 2000. Good luck.

Well that was gay. I guess the extended warrant that I bought through the bank only covers mechanical parts on my car. So the only thing covered on the top is the motor.

I guess I'm going to try and get the glue.

You might want to try Aqua Seal. I use it on the machines that I repair and it holds up pretty well. It's also waterproof. You can get it at most of the major sporting goods stores as people use it to repair wet suits and fishing clothing

This sounds pretty good. I'm going to try and find a place that does repairs on convertable tops and see what products they carry and if I can't find a place i'll go to a sporty good store to look for this.

Thanks
