Would you like a spoon straw with your Counterstrike?
Hi everybody... A bunch of us in the Bay Area forum were just talking about how cool it would be to have a counterstrike server for S2000 owners. I ran a great server for a year or so, but now am bandwidth challenged.. So is there anyone out there with a linux box on a decent pipe that wants to support the cause? I'd be happy to lend my Yoonix abilities to getting this up and running. I'd give our benefactor a free security audit of said machine and help out on any other yoonix/networking problems you might have. Anyways, shout out here if you're interested in playing or hosting this server. At the very worst, I'll host one on my cable modem, but the upstream will suck.

I was in a top 10 CS Clan that was ranked regionally....but after that clan, I have not had any luck in finding another renowned clan.
I wanna play with you guys!! Maybe we can make our own clan!

Not much, it's mainly latency that's a problem with cable modems. A 256k fractional T1 would be fine, it wouldn't saturate that. When I was running a 16 player server, I would see probably 80-100KB/sec at peak. I assume the network code has improved a bit since I ran my server (beta 6 had just come out).

kilobits... which would fit on an ADSL upstream, but we'd get killed by the network latency. Traceroute to your favorite site, and count the hops. If you have more than 4 within your provider's network, odds are it'd be a crappy connection for just about everyone.
