Default Older car owners - check your roof clamp brackets (pics)

For a couple of months now I have had an issue with the soft-top not sealing down properly to the windscreen, this meant that at motorway speeds the noise was defening and there was a draft coming through. I was given some suggestions on how to improve the situation with various additions to the bracket and/or hook of the clamp - I ended up putting a cable tie around each hook and this seemed to help but they fell off the first time I put the roof down!

So it was time to do it properly, luckily a fellow member here had a set of new brackets spare which they sent me (Thanks again! ) - what a difference! Having fitted the new brackets the roof now locks down much tighter than before (it even knocked my clock down a bit!!) and wind noise at high speed is reduced considerably.

Just thought I would mention this because I had not realised just how bad the situation was, below are some pics of my old brackets to show how worn they were (unfortunately they are not very photogenic but hopefully you get the idea!). Incidently the new brackets were generally much thicker than my old ones so I guess they are '02 brackets.

Not sure if I would have got these changed under warranty, probably the 3yr manf would have covered but I doubt the current extended one would.

Anyway, worth checking!

- Adam.

The plates are changed (from steel to aluminium IIRC) when you have the hard top fitted. So problems are probably less likely with these. If there's anyone outside warranty replacing them, might be worth seeing if you can get and fit the hardtop ones - they're designed to work with both hard and soft tops, but they're tougher for holding the hard top.
