Default FYI: Pioneer Cell Phone Mute Works with Sony HUs

I just realized I never shared this info before, If it's old news please ignore.

Here's the Pioneer Cell Phone Mute:

http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/Pioneer/...1429,10,00.html

Got it for $40 a few years ago and it has worked with the last two Sony HUs that I've oned in two different cars. I love this thing! Very easy to hookup (connects to the power and mute wires on the back of the HU) and works great. No need to connect the cell phone to anything, just place it anwhere, like in the cup holder/etc. When someone calls your phone it will automatically mute the stereo.

Blast those tunes and never miss a call.

Does it work well? If that worked with sprint phones I'd buy it in a second...

I wonder what kind of falses these things give...I'd hate to have my stereo continually muting because the schmoe in the next car received a call.

Actually this could be a good thing - it would be like having a "moron on cell phone" alert so you can be warned of the danger.

I wish it would do that!

As for falses, even at MAX sensitivity setting the range is very limited, like a few feet so definitely no problem with phones in other cars. The only falses you get are sometimes from the cell phone towers when you're very close to them and POLICE CARS if you pass by one and it's within a few car's length distance. It's not like a radar detector, I guess it just picks up their radios or some other device. If you do not even want these falses, set to a lower sensitivity setting but you'll need to keep the cell phone VERY close to the device - It does have a long enough wire so can be installed anywhere around where you normally keep your cell phone.

MacGyver: You can try mine with your system if you want. I don't have it hooked up at the moment. Not sure yet if I'm meeting Bass and the guys tonight, if I come I'll bring it with me otherwise I can drop it off sometime next week. Let me know.

Nside: I don't know about Sprint, It doesn't really matter who the provider is. If you look at the product description it tells you what frequencies it supports. Then you can see what frequency your phone uses.

old thread, that I just discovered... is this still possible?

I have a Sony HU (CDX-MP30) that does not have a cell mute lead...

I found this Pioneer CD-CM1 that I assume was referred to above....

http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/pna/prod...DetailComponent

Can I simply connect it to the generic power and mute lines on the back of my Sony HU? Thanks!

It should work but it's been so long there might be other options in the market now (maybe from Sony?).

EDIT: Yes, it's simple to hook up - just the power and mute wires and you're all done.

The product does not rely on any particular brand of headunit. It will work if your Alpine has a mute wire on it...at least that's what I gather.
