Well, I just got my CarChip E/X in today and did a quick test of it as promised. I'm pretty happy with what it can do so far but I still have a lot to figure out about it. I did a quick 6.2 mile run to see what kind of data output the software would give me. Here are the results:
Start Time : 4/24/2003 8:14 PM
End Time : 4/24/2003 8:23 PM
Duration : 0:09:00
Idle : 0:00:25
0 to 60 MPH : 0:05:53
60 to 100 MPH : 0:02:31
100 to 158 MPH : 0:00:10
Over 158 MPH : 0:00:00
Distance : 6.2 Miles
Average Speed : 41 MPH
Maximum Speed : 119 MPH
Hard Brakes : 5 (Between 0.28 G and 0.48 G)
Extreme Brakes : 0 (Over 0.48 G)
Hard Accelerations : 10 (Between 0.28 G and 0.48 G)
Extreme Accelerations : 3 (Over 0.48 G)
Parameters
Parameter 1 : Vehicle Speed Every 5 Seconds
Parameter 2 : Engine Speed Every 5 Seconds
Parameter 3 : Throttle Position Every 5 Seconds
Parameter 4 : Coolant Temperature Every 5 Seconds
Parameter 5 : Fuel System Status Every 5 Seconds

PLOT VIEW
In the software you are able to zoom into the graphs to get a more detailed view.
There is also a table view that will break down every reading by the polling interval you select, I chose 5 seconds, I'd show the table but it's huge even from my short trip.
ACTIVITY LOG
View / Activity Log / Summary
Time CarChip Description
There are many more views but due to formating issues it just doesn't look right if I copy it as text and paste. There is an Accident Log which shows the speed at which you began an extreme brake (user defineable, mine was set default at 0.48G) There is also a Vehicle Trouble Log which will list all error codes with description and time occured.
The CarChip E/X is able to log up to 300 hours of data before needing to be downloaded and cleared. It has user defineable parameters and can poll up to 4 in addition to the preset Vehcle Speed. There parameters are:
Engine Speed
Throttle Position
Coolant Temperature
Engine Load
Intake Manifold Pressure
Air Flow Rate
Intake Air Temperature
Timing Advance
Fuel Pressure
Fuel System Status
Short Term Fuel Trim (B1)
Short Term Fuel Trim (B2)

O2 Sensor Voltage (B2, S1)
O2 Sensor Voltage (B2, S2)

The CarChip also has an internal clock that you can synch with your PC, the CarChip will log when you change parameters, when you connect it to your vehicle, when it's disconnected, etc.
These other parameters are also user configurable:
You can also reset the Check Engine Light through the CarChip, it's a check box in a menu and the next time you connect it to your vehicle, it will shut off the light and clear the computer of all error codes.
It also has a flashing green LED that lets you know it's connected and working, this flashes about once every 10 seconds but can be shut off in the configuration menu if you want it to be hidden.
If anyone has any questions or would like me to do any specific tests with it, let me know and I'll configure it and go for a run.
Oh, and just a side note of something I noticed with the throttle position graph, it never hit's 90%, seems to go no higher than 89% even though I had it to the floor.
And another note, the sampling rate is far too low to use this product for any sort of tuning, but can be very handy for taking care of your own CEL and snooping on techs that have your vehicle (my motivation for purchasing).
This latest data was from my drive up to Spokane where I was in the accident. This data was my 46.5 mile run from Pasco to Connell where I stopped for fuel:
i have a nology scan tool that lists lots of parameters that it is supposed to capture, but connected to my s2k it does not get them all...
can you actually get Air Flow Rate, Fuel Pressure, Fuel System Status and Battery Voltage?
if so, i need to let the nology folks know that they are not capturing these items while other brands are, maybe they can research why and update their code.

Fuel Pressure and Air Flow Rate are reported by the CarChip E/X as "Not Supported By Vehicle". I can get intake pressure though.
Fuel System Status and Battery Voltage are however:
I am not sure why those two would be unsupported unless Honda did not install sensors to monitor them but I thought the computers reporting would have a set standard by now...
thanks, from what i understand, each manufacturer is supposed to support a standard set. generic tools should be able to read them all, but sometimes they do not get them all due to the way they are reported without updating their software....
also had it on the track at Summit Point for two days last week, have not really had time to go over the data yet to see if it points out places that i need to work on. will post results when i can.
