Default Supercharger Summary

I have been casually following many of the Comptech threads. Could some current OWNERS of a comptech supercharged S2000 post some conclusions?

1. Are "tuning" issues now resolved? By Comptech or by owner ingenuity? What "fixes" are required to the stock Comptech kit? Has Comptech modified the kit from the original?

2. What drivability issues are owners experiencing? At temperature? At altitude? At the track?

3. What is the consensus of self installation difficulty and/or cost of a professional installation?

4. Any verified diff/transmission difficulties tied to the supercharger?

5. Dyno results and/or seat of the pants HP and Torque improvement? Does the car remain balanced?

6. Would you do it again?

To add to what pfb said, I also have a couple of questions:

1) Have the owners replaced the clutch yet?
2) What other items are necessary when installing the supercharger? For instance, J&S safeguard, gauges, etc...

Thanks..

My .02:

1) I installed it myself and would do so again... I bought the S2000 to play with as a hobby, so I do ALL of my own work (all $30,000 worth of mods)

2) After the electronic fix, the car rocks

3) I would do it again... and again... and...

4) I let the clutch out at 2000 - 3000 rpm: I have no clutch problems (never slips) and I anticipate NO differential problems. Drive the car nicely and it will not break!

5) Around town, I get great gas mileage and the car 'feels' Naturally Aspirated... its when the boost hits above 6000rpm that the engine feels really modified.

6) Don't drag race. Get a Camaro for that.

7) Yes, it looks gorgeous:

Anything else? Just ask...

I will second shaner's response. I had the installation done for me.

My best dyno run did 292.5 hp at the rear wheels with 178 ft lbs of torque.

1. I'm using Comptech's latest valve, works fine.

2. Drives just like stock, just more power.

3. Had performance shop at dealer do it, $900 (they had it for 5 days).

4. No problems.

5. Haven't dyno'd.

6. Definitely.

7) I have a new clutch plate and disk sitting on my kitchen counter (from Comptech). The stock clutch is really burning now - from drag racing, the new clutch will be going in this week.

8) Pretty much everyone that I talked to prior to installation recommended the following gauges, Air/Fuel, Boost, and Exhaust Temperature. It's considered a "bad idea" to not install gauges.

Would a VAFC in its simplest use... be a fuel/air guage? I am planning to do a DOE of HP/torque as a function of fuel pressure + air/fuel ratio with the least number of dyno runs to get some kind of transfer function so I can optimize performance. Obviously, a VAFC is required... I was just wondering about its use initially as a guage...

I know very little about V-AFC, maybe someone else could answer that.

Yes,

I believe it gives up on the fly readings.....that is the S-AFC.

Apexi has three products of interest to the boosters of this organization: S-AFC, V-AFC, and the Turbo Timer.

the S-AFC is what you are looking for, I think. The V-AFC has the controls of Air/Fuel Control/management, but doesn't give read-outs. It also can allow you to "remap" VTEC engagement points. The turbo timer will allow you to run your car after you've left and taken out the key to properly let the oil temp. to cool down.
