I've had my car for almost a month with 300 miles on it, and Since the first day I picked it up 1 to 2 shift is realllly notchy and I'm really scared of grinding it. Yesterday I let the clutch up too fast and ground 3rd gear. However still I still have to shift pretty slowly from 1-2 since the shift is so notchy and I don't want to grind. Does eveybody have this problem? 1-2 is the only problem, everything else is fine. I've read about the complaints about the 1,2 grind, why is this?, is it a flaw in the cars design??

I had the notchy 1-2 and 2-3 shifting until about 2000 miles when it began to get much smoother. Now, at 5500 miles, it's sometimes a little notchy when cold, but otherwise, very smooth.

It is very likely that the notchy shifting you are feeling is just that fact the box is new and the triple cone synchros have more resistance especially when new.

Is this only in the 2000 models, mine is a 2001, I do notice that after the car warms up a little it tends to go away.

I own a 2000 model and just yesterday to get around a car before my lane ended I shifted from 2nd to 1st at about 25mph, got it to 8800rpm - shifted to 2nd gear and grounded 2nd. I was somewhat worried, but it seem fine as I did not force the shift. I heard from another owner that Honda had a recall (or similar) and they would fix the issue. Any one heard something?

We have seen no real evidence or documentation indicating the 2001 models are different than the 2000's.

Also seems hard to get into first! Have to use some force to get back into 1st. Hope it goes away after several thousand miles. Only 2K mi. on now.

Thanks! I'll call the dealer and see what they can do.
