Soooo.... I read the bulletin and it seems quite involved. Pulling the tranny and re-installing it might make the car "not as tight" - plus if the repair shop damaged anything else.... Come to think of it, last summer I brought the car in to have them fix the side strakes that were loose (they had to order new ones)and there was another S2000 there with the tranny pulled. Spoke to the tech and he said the owner blew out 2nd gear. What is everyones opinion on fixing the issue?

Lots of different opinions on this. I've had the grind twice, and will wait until I have a more significant problem before having such serious work done. Pinky, who posts here frequently, thinks the problem may be inevitable http://www.s2000online.com/forums/showthre...?threadid=12136
Try a search and you'll find even more opinions and input

Good luck!

I have an '01 with 5600 miles on it and 1-2 has always been notchy when cold. Even now, when warm, it still is slitghtly notchy - I was hoping it would have worked its way out by now. Looks like it may simply be production tolerances - doesn't appear to be a synchro problem but a shifter gate roughness.

Maybe just always driving in 1st and 2nd gear will provide more usage to smooth it out faster.... <BSEG>

I have altered my shifting habits just a bit with this car after a few embarrasing grinds during my first 2,000 miles. I have slowed my shifts down just ever so slightly and have experienced no more high rpm grinds. I believe this little shifter is so quick that my clutch foot, during high rpm shifts, was sometimes slightly mis-timed. I've driven manuals most of my life, but none with such short and quick throws as the S2K.

I have an extremely notchy shifter as well. I have to put the car in 3rd before I shift into first. Actually I discovered something odd recently. When the car is sitting still on a flat surface and I engage the clutch, the moves a little (very little) when I shift into 1st as though something is connecting. I can feel it a bit but its not a grind. I also have the 1-2 grind but this is different. I'm waiting for the parts as we speak and should be able to report if the new synchros and clutch plate make the difference for the notchy shifting as well.

I'd suggest having Honda take a look at it. The car should not move when you shift into first with the clutch on the floor. It may be that your clutch is out of adjustment, and not fully disengaging.

I'll look at the other posts and make a decision on what to do. My only concern is once the car is taken apart it does not have that "factory" feel anymore. Just me.....

My shifts were notchy when the car was brand new but after 2600 miles the shifts are butter smooth.

I have about 550 miles on the car. I also have a notchy shift from 1st to 2nd and also to 3rd. It is worse when the car is cold. When the car warms up, it gets better - sometimes. Just when I think its going away, its back. It is quite bothersome. I have no grind, just notchyness. I don't think its bad enough to pull the transmission and make the repair, but it is enough to piss me off. I have also read where many owners fell it gets better with time. I sure hope so. 2000 models verses 2001 does anyone really know if there has been a fix? Help GaToR
