Drive the Wine Country of CT - Saturday June 7, 2003
Discover Connecticut's beautiful vineyards and sample its fine wines.
Connecticut has long been known for its pride in workmanship. This tradition is continued by the winemaking families of the Connecticut Wine Trail. Come enjoy the varied styles of wine, exciting views and warm hospitality offered by these vineyards
You are invited to discover some of Connecticut's agricultural bounty: its beautiful vineyards and fine wines. This drive will take you through some of Connecticut's most scenic and historic towns. Where you'll drive the S2000 to Clinton, Mystic, Stonington and North Stonington on the Connecticut coast, where life intermingles with the rich history of these early seaport towns to scenic Promfret and on to Colchester and Lisbon, historic villages of great beauty.

Drive on the Eastern CT region
#5 Chamard Vineyard
#6 Stonington Vineyards
#8 Heritage Trail Vineyards
#9 Priam Vineyards
#10 Sharpe Hill Vineyard
This trip through the wine country of Connecticut will start from the southern part of the Trail in Clinton and end in the northern part of the Trail in Promfret. We will all meet half-way at Heritage Trail Vineyards in Lisbon to eat a picnic lunch (Please bring your own lunch, lunch will not be provided). I don't have any activities/festivities planned but if someone wants to run with this they are more than welcome. Otherwise, it will be a meet and greet event. I am also thinking of finding another central location for Dinner (depending on weather). Stay tuned...
Itinerary:
Meet at #5 Chamard Vineyard 1-95, Exit 63 in Clinton at 10am to get everyone together (Have packs of 4-5 to drive if many show up)
Chamard Vineyards was founded in 1983 by the William R. Chaney family. The first vines were planted in the spring of 1984, a 5.5 acre vineyard consisting primarily of Chardonnay with a small quantity of Cabernet Sauvignon and Pinot Noir.

good lord, I can't believe I am saying this... especially during this series...
but go YANKEES. Ugh, there I said it. I feel cheap and violated.
Can we rename this the REDSOX route???
My wife and I went to Sharpe hill a couple of weeks ago. It is a very nice place. You sit on their patio while they bring you different wines to sample. They let you taste 3 wines for free or 6 wines for $5 but you keep the 'sharpe hill' momento wine glass. They have probably the best dessert wine I have ever tasted. Wine prices are between $10 & $20 a bottle.
The down side is their driveway is a gravel pit and the parking lot is a field. Some nice woman in a BMW was nice enough to give me my first door ding after two years of being totally 'ding free'. I suggest that if you are anal about your car then park on the road and walk to the winery.
We have spent the last four weekends cruising aroung that area in the S and it is an absolutely wonderful ride. Lots of good roads and scenery.
We will be there...
go REDSOXs.
