Has Honda called you about the air bag switch?

Default Has Honda called you about the air bag switch?

I'm impressed.

About a year ago, I wrote AHM and asked if they had a switch to turn off the passenger air bag. They wrote back saying the part was "unavailable." When I followed up and asked what "unavailable" meant, I got corporate double-speak. They wouldn't answer if the part existed or when it might become "available."

After that, I decided not to install an aftermarket switch (a pox on any non-original Honda parts or modifications to my car!) and forgot all about it.

Day before yesterday, a very nice fellow from AHM called, said the part was now available (as a "controlled" part), asked if I was still interested and offered to try to find a Honda dealer willing to install it. Apparently, even if you have the NHTSA form, nobody is obligated to install an air bag switch.

Has anyone installed or even seen the Honda OEM part? Pix of where it's located and how major the installation was would be very appreciated.

On another point, AHM gets lots of bashing here (sometimes from me). But, aside from the initial doubleplusgood Orwellian responses on my initial request, you gotta give 'em kudos for keeping a list, making the part available and then following up with owners.

Nice job, AHM. But why, oh why, must you always be so secretive?

I might get bashed for asking this question because its stupid but, when or why would you need to turn off the passenger air bag? Does it have something to do with child saftey?
