Bigger geeks, Star Wars or Star Trek fans????
Don't bust my chops. I like Scifi, but I recently saw some news footage of Comicon here in San Diego. I have to say the Star Trek fans rule supreme in Dorkland.

Definitely Trekkees are bigger geeks, Star Wars, you can understand why people like it, it's actually interesting, and had some good movies.. Star Trek just has this damn Spaceship that may or may not do anything, I've never made it through an entire episode..
I personally have only seen 1 episode of Star Trek ever.... it had a evil capitan Kirk and a normal one..... kind of like soap opera's.... only he didn't have a patch on his eye.
and... I have only seen parts of Star Wars...not into any of that kind of stuff..... Spaceballs was pretty funny though......
may the Schwanz be with you.

Maybe that's why there are more Trekkers in NASA than there are Star Wars fans? Trekkers actually get up and make something go into space
Though I'd never get into one of them uniforms, I think Star Trek is a great series.

i say Star Trek Fans are nerdy.. but you know, most of the stuff they talk about, can be reality. Just recenty, that whole transporter deal actually happened. They transported one proton from one area, to another. granted, it was only a few inches, but still.. the technology is coming.
BTW, i am a trekker!!!!

Great topic! I can actually watch both. I consider Star Wars to be more fairy tale based, whereas Star Trek tries to keep things scientific/reality based (not the stories, but the technology). But yes, Star Trek fans would have to be considered more of the "nerdy" type, though both camps have their 'off the deep-end' fans. Like our very own darth_nerd (oops! I mean darth_s2k

It depends... you see, Star Trek is a continuing entity, via movies AND Tv episodes (currently "Enterprise" is the Star Trek show), while with Star Wars you have a movie once every three or four years, then a 20 year wait for the next one while comic books and scifi novels hold ya through.
Trekkies have the benefit of a continously evolving VISUAL world to base their fandom off of, while Star Wars fans have to use their imagination most of the time.
So, I would say that Star Wars fans are the more creative fans, while the Trekkies have the higher numbers. I mean, look at when new star wars toys are released.... you have lineups a mile long at midnight JUST to get teh new toys.
As for nerdiness quotient, hereinafter referred to as NQ, the Trekkies have an NQ of around 10 on a scale of 10, while Star Wars fans have an NQ of around 7.5. I am basing the NQ off the total nuttery that fans will do just because they are fans. I've never seen a star wars fan pain herself green, put on antenna and streak naked across a football field O_o but I have seen costumes of all kinds at Star Wars movies, everything from Jawas to a Darth Vader with 10 stormtroopers in PERFECT replicas of the costumes.

And for the record, I *HAVE* dressed up as a Ranger from Babylon 5 for the convention in Edmonton a few years back
And for true science based science fiction shows, I would vote Space: Above And Beyond and Babylon 5 as the most Newtonian of TV shows, for technology AND science
