I didn't put this thread in the "For Sale" forum because this is a project that is just getting started, but I wanted to give you all a heads-up on what I'm working on. This will also give you a chance to express your interest, and make suggestions.
Some of you may have seen the following thread, if not you can check it out for the info on how I got involved with this company:
Let me say, first of all, that I will be making absolutely NO money, for my part in this project. I may be getting some discount on the special pieces that I want custom made, though. I want to stress this, because as always, my opinions of products are not influenced by profit, and I will tell you guys exactly how it really is!
Having said that, I think that this might be one of the coolest things ever offered for the S2000, so far! Let me try to break it down for you.
This new company wants to make an interior kit for our car. The process that the company uses will allow for a wide range of designs and colors for the application, so that you will be able to individualize these products to suit your tastes. This interior kit is unlike anything offered before, in that it is NOT something that you stick onto your existing parts- honestly, I think that stuff looks cheap, and crappy, and I would never put a product like that on my beautiful car (no offense to anyone)!
It is not even appropriate to call this new product a "kit," because it is not something that you can apply yourself, and I believe that there is also no way to remove it. It will involve an exchange program, where they will send you out the finished products, and after you receive them, you will then send in your parts, so there will be no down time for your car.
The way that they cover the parts is very unique, and complex in nature, but the finished products that I have seen are amazing! The beauty of this application is that is not just for flat surfaces, it conforms to the shape of the part being covered, and the finish is stunning! Here are some examples that have already been posted:
The manufacturing process for this type of covering is very complex, and I don't know enough about it to describe it accurately, but it involves the application of some kind of printed gel, which is then painted over with some type of coloring, and then the whole part is dipped in some kind of liquid which has some kind of reaction with the gel.
I believe that they said that the pieces are then clear coated, sanded, and polished, but I'm not sure on that, because all of the pieces that I saw had a flawless finish, and I have never seen any parts that didn't have some type of surface defects before. These were as close to perfect, as anything I've ever seen- I couldn't find any defects, whatsoever!
Sorry, that I'm not better versed on the process, but I was just with them for a short time yesterday.
This company asked me to provide them with certain pieces from my interior, so that they can make molds to use for the manufacturing process (I don't know how the molds are used). One of the greatest things about this, is that they want to include the Dash Console (which is in front of the gauges)!! No one as of yet has been able to do anything with this part, other than custom paint it ( ). I remember that Elda Engineering promised us a true CF Dash Console a while back, but then gave up on the idea.
So, I am going to supply the parts that they want to make their kit. Then I hit them with the Kodokan special! Even if they produce these amazingly great pieces, I want a lot more for my ride. You guys know that I am always looking for unique mods, and I'm always trying to push the envelope with what I do to my car, so here's what I have requested....
I have asked them to cover my Roll Bar Hoop Covers, Secret Compartment door, Glove Box Door, The entire Console, including the Cup Holder Door, and Coin Tray, the A-Pillars and the Overhead Visor Strip, the Door Sill Panels, and they might even make a cool little Pocket to replace that useless Net on the door.
How crazy is that???
This is in addition to the other pieces that they want to produce, which include the Dash Console, the Door Handle Bezels, Switch Plates, Shifter Frame, and possibly the Passenger Side Dash Air Vent (it's very tough to remove though, without scratching the dash), also the Radio Door Panel and the Tweeter Pods may be produced, if there is a demand for those items. If I've left out some things, I wouldn't be surprised, there's so much going on!
There are a lot more items that we have discussed, a lot of which are under the hood (just think of the possibilities!), but we have to start somewhere.
I'm going to start removing my interior pieces tomorrow, and I'm hoping that I will have some stuff to show you all before the next car show, which is August 30th (HIN, at L.A. Convention Center).
There's no set pricing on anything, but the numbers that were being thrown around were definitely reasonable!
Feel free to express your interest and suggestions. I will keep everyone informed, as we progress with this project. I'm really excited about this one!!
Pete,
Can you try not to write a book everytime? It's like Pete is working on some interior trim pieces and have good quality and they are replacement compares other other kits which is stick ons......
Why cant it be like that? I spent 2 mins of my life just reading your post man!

[B]Hello all. By now you have learned Peter will be working with us to develope some items for the S2000. He met the requirements and is sufficiently crazy to try some unusual things without really knowing how it will turn out. Being somewhat eccentric myself, I appreciate that. He would like to do things that challenge our capabilities, but we will see how it turns out.
