Default How can I tell if my shift knob is OEM titanium and not aluminum?

I just bought my 2001 S2000 and thought I had the titanium shift knob, but read somewhere that the stock shift knob was aluminum and that the titanium was an optional accessory. How can I tell if my shift knob is the titanium one?

Ti is a lot heavier. Compare with someone else.

The titanium tends to have more of a gold sheen to it and looks like it has a clear coat painted on, whereas the aluminum one has more of a brushed look.

Leave the top down and let the shift knob heat up.

The Ti one will burn you hand bad, while the aluminum one with BURN THE SHIT out of your hand.

My titanium knob (MY2001) is darker than the aluminum knob. It also looks more polished than the aluminum one does. It is much heavier and it really is cooler than the aluminum knob in this weather (90+). Take a look at any S2000 in the dealer's showroom. They should have an aluminum shift knob. The knob design changed with the MY2002's and later. They went from all aluminum to half leather and half aluminum. If your shift knob looks like the metal of the one on the showroom floor, then you have an aluminum knob.

Good luck,

Looks like I've got the aluminum, I took it off and compared it with the pics and it has lines running around it which the titanium doesn't have. Also, the finish is a bit flatter and not as shiny looking as that picture. Does anyone know where I can get the titanium one for cheap or even used ones for that matter?

Does the aluminum w/leather one from the newer models weigh the same as the all aluminum of the older models?
