Default Honda changed their oil filters

I went to get a new oil filter on Saturday and when I compared it to the one already on my car the newer filter was smaller in diameter. I asked Honda if I got the correct filter and they said that they changed all their filters to a smaller version about two months ago.

The smaller version will still work, however, two out of three parts dept people said the bigger S filter was still recommended yet Honda won't make it anymore.

At this point, I don't know what to believe and was wondering if others have heard of this filter change, and what others have been doing in the meantime. I read on other threads that people use Mobil 1 filters... does anyone know where to find this filter? How about other filter recommendations?

They sold you the wrong filter.

Old OEM universal filter = 15400-POH-305
Made by Filtech (For all Hondas)

New OEM universal filter = 15400-PLM-A01
Made by Fram (Replaces 15400-POH-305. Except not for use on the S2000)

New OEM "S2000 only" filter = 15400-PCX-004
Made by Toyo Roki (Same size as old)

Interesting... I'll see if the part numbers match my invoice and ask about the Toyo filter.

It sounded like Honda was not going to have the usual oil filter available for the S, and was going to use the smaller universal one for every car they make.

There have been (painfully long) threads on this in the Under the Hood forum. I believe the scoop is that there is one new smaller universal fits all Hondas except the S2000 filter. There is also a new filter for just the S2000. I think.

I use the deadly fire causing oversize Mobil1 M-105 filter.

Thanks Ted, I found one of the threads...

What surprises me is that Bellevue and Renton Honda parts dept's didn't know about the new oil filter being issued. And, they do not have it avail?!!!

Honda made the annoucement in mid July and I am sure other S owners have tried to purchase the new filter... I wonder why I am getting some run-around.

Ananda,

I was just gonna post the same thread also. I was changing my oil this weekend and took the old filter off and realize the new Honda filter I just bought is smaller. Sucks, cause I too thought it was a mistake and unfortunately Honda parts was closed so I went down to my local Schuck's and purchased a Fram (Doubleguard version at $9.99 a pop) oil filter to finish the job. I went to HOB this morning and they said that is what the new filter are now for the S2000. They also mentioned that a filter just for the S will be made (but I think this maybe this is for the new S ???). Anyways, There is still about a half dozen left of the old (bigger) filter left at HOB if anyone cares. They swapped the smaller one for the old bigger one for me. BTW... the new Honda OEM ones says "Manufactured by Fram" on the bottom... is all Honda OEM (including the old ones) made by Fram?

I went in today to get an oil change done at Honda of Bellevue and established greater clarity around this whole new oil filter drama sequence that's going down.

Honda of Bellevue's parts deparment just received the new filter 15400-PCX-004 the other day and I validated and confirmed with them that this is the filter they will be using from this point forward on all S2000s that roll through for oil changes. This new filter is also in stock available for purchase.

I can also confirm that the new filter does say Toyo Roki on it as it's on my car now.

The increase in power is giving me an O-face each time I press down on the throttle.

Good luck,
