Default question - swaybar sizes for each year model

From the new training material we know the '04 model (S2200) has front/rear swaybar sizes of 26.5mm/25.4mm. Looking at www.honda.com I can see '03 S2000 has has front/rear swaybar sizes of 27.2mm/28.6mm. Does anyone know what the swaybar sizes are on the '00, '01, and '02 models?

Here is what I have found so far (for searching through old threads):

'00
front swaybar diameter 28.2mm
front swaybar wall thickness 5.0mm
rear swaybar diameter 27.2mm
rear swaybar wall thickness 5.3mm

'02
front swaybar diameter 25.7mm (but I've seen confliciting reports on this)
rear swaybar diameter 27.2mm
rear swaybar wall thickness 4.5mm

'03
front swaybar diameter 27.2mm
rear swaybar diameter 28.6mm

'04
front swaybar diameter 26.5mm
rear swaybar diameter 25.4mm

Thanks davepk! Here is what I found according to the link:

'00 - '01
front swaybar diameter 28.2mm
front swaybar wall thickness 5.0mm
rear swaybar diameter 27.2mm
rear swaybar wall thickness 5.3mm

'02 - '03
front swaybar diameter 26.5mm
front swaybar wall thickness 4.5mm
rear swaybar diameter 27.2mm
rear swaybar wall thickness 4.5mm

And this is from the scanned info posted in several threads here:

'04
front swaybar diameter 26.5mm
front swaybar wall thickness ?
rear swaybar diameter 25.4mm
rear swaybar wall thickness ?

hmmm

Think this means I can put an 00-01 front swaybar in my 03 to make the car more neutral?

Wow, interesting that the '00-'01 front swaybar is so much stiffer than later models. There must be something else done to the newer suspension, or else I'd think there'd be mucho oversteer .

You can put an '00-'01 sway bar on to increase your car's tendency towards understeer -- whether this will actually make it more neutral depends on whether it understeers or oversteers now.

Keep in mind that the stiffness difference between the '00 bar and the '03 bar will be relatively subtle (I can't find a formula for stiffness of hollow bars, but it would probably be around 30%), so you may want to try one of the stiffer aftermarket bars instead.

Actually, if the only change was to soften the rear bar, then that would increase rear grip and thus reduce oversteer. Both spring and damper rates were changed in '02 along with the sway bars, though, and I believe they were changed again for the '04 (as were the tire widths). It's quite likely that Honda's changes were intended to further tame the back end of the car.

By the way, the torsional stiffness of a hollow tube depends primarily on the polar moment of inertia of the bar. For a hollow tube, J = pi/2*(Router^4 - Rinner^4). Assuming that all other dimensions of the two bars are identical (along with the material), and using the dimensions provided above, the '00-'01 bar comes out at *drumroll*...30.9% stiffer than the '02-'03 bar. Nice guess, Steve .

I've got the 31.8 mm Mugen bar on mine, which I don't think is made any more. I'm not sure what the wall thickness on it is, but notice that an increase of only 1.7 mm in outer thickness and 0.5 mm inner resulted in a 30% increase, so mine is probably much stiffer than stock. *irresistable number crunching ensues* If the wall is still 5 mm, that results in a further 52.4% over the '00-'01 stock bar, and is a full 100% stiffer than the '02-'03 . Yowza.

Ted - I've had the Mugen bar sitting in my garage for a while now - haven't had time to put it on yet. How long have you had yours on?

btw - I'll be passing thru next friday on the way up to the Dragon!
