My car is at the shop getting an ACT HD Pressure Plate and ACT Street Disc installed (bought via Comptech). I had heard that a new clutch needs to be broken in, just curious if anyone had some advice on this and other things to be aware of when I pick the car up tonight.

Pull the car around let it warm up to 3 bars do 2 very nice easy off idle starts to get the feel for it.......then rev to 8,000 rpms and leave a pound of rubber and tons of smoke behind you.

Kidding. Probably don't do any real hard launches till you have done about a tank full of gas with a lot of around town shifting. This way it all can seat correctly.

I assume the installer will give me some advice, such as how long (miles) to take it easy...just want to have more than one opinion.

The place where I bought my ACT clutch/pressure plate recommended normal driving for 500 miles. The mileage should be city-like driving with many shifts as opposed to highway driving in 6th gear. This break-in process should be done so that the clutch disk doesn't glaze over, which causes slippage.

I'd be curious as to what others have to say. I don't want to drive around slow for 5 days. Maybe I'll just break it in over a weekend. I've been wanting to know what has changed in downtown Houston.

Dude, don't do it. It's a mess down here, construction and potholes. When did you get your clutch put in? I didn't know you had one.

I second joe_s2k on this one. When I replaced the clutch/flywheel on my ITR with an ACT/Comptech kit. The dealer recommended a 500 mi break-in period. Just like breaking the car in.

You'll love the new clutch and flywheel. Did you install a light flywheel? If so, how light is it compared to the stock flywheel?

Good luck Wes! BTW, you guys running tomorrow?

I didn't do anything to the flywheel...haven't heard of a reason to. We'll be running tomorrow for sure. 8:30 PM at Mamma's cafe on Westhiemer or 10:30 PM at the Super K. From there it's totally spontaneous. Just gotta get 500 miles in before tomorrow night!

I think joe was referring to his Eagle Talon AWD. He replaced his clutch on that one.

I'll see if I can make it tomorrow. I need to get some practical pointers on how to launch my S2K.

What's the feel like, I mean I have heard that it's well worth the investment. But, I would like a detailed explanation of the results of changing out the stock clutch and pressure plate. BTW I don't know much about clutches so please be nice.

I haven't got it yet. It should be in next week. Just in time for my TSB.

As Kibro mentioned, I did do a clutch/pp upgrade on my Eagle Talon TSI-AWD and loved it. Man, talk about more clamping force to get the car going! This should be a good mod with our weak clutch. I guess the differential will shatter into a million pieces now.
