Florida group survived the DragonBall trip- Pics (dial-up beware!)
The Florida group met early Friday am to leave for the DB '03. Group consisted of Tidalwave (Dave & Lisa), Pop^Top (Justin & Jessie), DonH (Don & son Kevin), Chiung (Chiung), FastrackS2000 (Brad), and the wife and me (Cynthia & Don). We all met in Ocala for the long trip to the Tennessee mountains. Here are some pictures of the trip up.
There are some really great roads north of Atlanta and Cynthia was at the wheel when we went through them. She was like !! This was just after driving through the Atlanta traffic and she did a really great job keeping up the pace. Here are some of the pics on these roads.
Then we got to sample some local flavor by hitting Robbinsville, NC at the start of the Homecoming parade Friday afternoon. Seems like there were alot of trucks and 4 wheel ATVs in the parade. Took a few shots of the parade (we weren't close enough to get pictures of the marching band).
Driving to the Dragon in a deluge wasn't fun, especially when we thought we were lost at the back of the pack! Then the rain had quit by the time we arrived at the gathering place at the dragon.
Everyone was anxiously waiting the start.
All the cameras were ready!
Then on to the Tail of the Dragon!
Here's the wrecker retrieving a bike that went over the edge earlier in the morning.
After several runs on the dragon, we head for Fontana dam for lunch.
When we got back to the pavillion parking lot after looking at the dam, everyone had left and we were saying "which way did they go?" (We got lost getting to the dam, now we're left at the dam- damn!)
We finally find our way out and back to the dragon we go! Got directions (fuzzy) from the clerk at the Deals Gap store and headed towards the Cherohala Skyway. Hooked-up with 2 other lost S's at the start of the Skyway. Don't remember there names right now, but a couple from Pittsburg and 2 guys from the Atlanta area. We followed them and did a portion of the skyway before the weather turned bad again. When we all turned around and headed back, we passed the rest of the group doing the skyway run. We decided to head back to the Dragon and take in some other sights along the way.
Here's some shots at the Chilhowee dam.
On the way back to the hotel, we ran into the group coming back from the skyway run. The Florida group did really well at the prize drawings held before dinner that night. Out of the 6 cars from there, all of us but DonH won a prize!
We had a great dinner Saturday evening and had a chance to meet a lot of really friendly people there.
Sunday we knew that we had to start the long trek back to reality and head home. Half of the Florida group were fortunate enough to be able to stay longer! Chiung, Brad, Cynthia and I headed for 1 more trip on the Dragon before heading South. This time we stopped at the overlook and took some great pics.

A stop back by the Deals Gap Resort to check out the "Tree of Shame" and then it's time to start the 680 mile trip back to east coast of Florida!
12 hours later- we make it home sunburned (top down until the last 70 miles), but safe!
Thanks goes out to Raul for putting this event together and to everyone else we had a chance to meet! We had a blast and are looking forward to next year!
Had a great time, glad I went. Thanks Raul for setting this up, Fantastic Job
