What is the S2000 like on a trip?

In another post on this page I found the above link to the Edmunds review of the new 2004 S2000. (Should it not be the S2200 now?) Anyway a comment was made in the review that they would not want to drive the car further than 200 miles. The quote is

Well, I'm 5'9" and just over 250 pounds (hours and hours in the gym). I wear (depending on my work-out schedule) anywhere from a 50 to a 52 regular and I feel like I fit great in the S2000.
Now, I've been off my workout for my yearly 4 month bulk break and I don't feel that I fit as well with the few extra I've packed on in my ass, my shoulders still fit great though.
When I'm in season I have no fitment issues. Off season sucks.
I'm not comfortable in ANY vehicle on long trips, but the S2000 is certainly (to me) one of the most comfortable uncomfortable cars I've driven.

I simply love the buzzin' hornets for hours on end.. could be 5 hrs, 10 hrs and I'm fine with it.. but my passengers tended to get "silent" after about 3 hours..
sitting was no problem at all..
all I would do next is get headrests..

The good news is that the car fits most people like a glove. The bad news is that it fits most people like a glove.
You may not realize it but on long trips you tend to adjust your seating position regularly, moving your legs around, repositioning your butt from left to right, as well as going from a slouch to full lumbar contact. The S2000 seats are designed to be very snug and comfortable in one position. You can't move around like in "slush seats" found in most cars. as a result, it is possible to get a little stiff when traveling on long trips.
It is by no means uncomfortable on long rides, but it's hardly like sitting in an overstuffed sofa. Personally, I love long trips in my S2000 but I tend to try to break up the trip a little to get out and stretch.
It doesn't surprise me that Honda redesigned the door inner panels in '04 to give more room. That door inner handle makes it difficult to put your left foot on the floor cross beam, giving you another position. Your knee barely fits between the steering wheel and the door handle.

Once you learn how to pack light (small trunk) and stop occassionally to streach (the tight surround doesn't afford much while on the road), it's a fine road car. The wife and I took a 4000 mile trip shortly after buying it. The short wheel base and stiff ride will not be everyone's cup of tea. The seats have good ergonomics and actually seem to get more comfortable the longer you're in them - kinda like jeans. That 200 mile statement is just his way of saying it's no Rolls.
I've driven an S from chicago to st. louis to san antonio once, and two trips between san antonio and st. louis. Usually around 15 hours. I've had no problems on those longer trips, and after those anything else seems short anyway. I find it just fine on longer trips personally.

do a search for people that have done long drives. My record is around 13 hours with only breaks for gas.
I loved it... My wife now refuses to go on trips greater that 4-5 hours in my car
working on changing that now.
BTW a great cure for fatigue or stiffness.....

Last year we drove 3000mi. in 4 days, putting in 8-10hrs. behind the wheel, and all in perfect comfort. I was as ready to go after driving all day as when I first started out. The close-fit to me is more comfortable, more supportive, so squirming around is a sign of discomfort. Driving a car that's like a land barge with an over-stuffed easy chair would be torture. I'm 65, and we old goats are notorious for demanding comfort!
genghis-- getting the wife to join in such road epics isn't so easy, I'll admit. Personally, I'd like such journeys to be top-down, but then my "hair doesn't get messed up".
