I need instructions on how to reset the ECU! Already did a search and couldn't find anything!!!!!

 

step 1 - disconnect the negative battery terminal

step 2- go get a beer and wait 15-20 minutes

step 3- reconnect the negative battery terminal

 

There's an easier way to do so. Remove a fuse from the box under the driver's dash. Which fuse? Do another search and you'll find it. I don't remember which one at the moment, so I can't say.

why ECU need to be reset?

 

Although it will turn off the check engine light (just temporarily if conditions are not changed) it forces the ecu to relearn all fuel trim. I will not do it as it screws with the idle and low speed response. I use an OBD tool to reset CEL conditions, instead of living with idle problem for the next twenty trips.

are you sure about that? just checked my car ... don't have a #25 ... do you mean #16 (7.5A) "Back-up"

Second fuse from top on right(Third Slot). I believe it IS marked back-up.

 

Hmmm, my ESM numbers them different than the user manual. Odd, I'll look into it but yes, the backup 7.5A.

 

Resetting ECU:
1. Remove the third fuse down from the second column (No. 25 Backup 7.5 A Fuse)
2. Wait for 60 secs and replace the fuse (make sure to note the orientation)
3. Turn on the car (with all electrical items turned off & throttle fully closed) and let it idle for 5-6mins (Idle learn process)
