Default Power Problem VTEC?

My car has been lacking power in the vtec range the last week or so.

It's like the car doesn't enter into vtec properly. It seems to surge.

I haven't seen any engine lights.

The only things I can think of that are differant is it's the first rain this car has seen. So the humidity is higher.
Could that do anything like this?

I also top off the oil regularly. It was down 2 marks out of the 5. So I topped it off. What if I over filled the oil by one mark on the stick? I didn't check as many times as I filled it up last time but I couldn't have over filled it more than 1/6th of a quart if at all. It looked good on the stick. How would it look if it was over filled, I'd expect to see it up past full?

What would overfilling the oil do to VTECing?

It's been idleling kind of funny too lately. When I pull up to a light it may drop down very low for a second with the air conditioning on.

Any ideas? It's been very solid until this last week. It has about 10,400 miles on it now.

By the way I had it out to the track a few months back. Took it to the streets of willow springs, one of my favorite tracks, and it was fantastic. What a great car. I can't tell you how much I love this car. It drove very similarly to my 1993 NA MR2. A little less tail happy with lots more range. But the driving style was very familiar, it's just such a beautifully balanced machine.

Thanks for any ideas...

Map sensor problems will cause erratic response at high throttle openings, almost feels as if the car is cutting out inconsistently. Do a search on Map sensor.. it sounds like you might be able to fix it by rapping on the sensor.

Tapping on the map sensor solved the problem thanks!!

Though as a previous poster noted when trying to remove the screws in the sensor be careful. I used the correct head size for the screw but the head on the screw is so soft it melted like butter and didn't budge, and I was being careful.

So I didn't remove the sensor I just tapped it in place and Now I'll ahve to have that screw removed.

This happens to me every summer when I start to use the A/C. After a few episodes, it seems to learn and stops doing it. If I don't use the A/C for a while and then start to use it again, it'll have that "near death experience" again and have to learn once more.

I don't think we are the only ones with a MAP issue. Have you driven a Ford (and not even lately)?
