First off, I'd like to extend a huge "Thanks!" to Todd Marcucci of Marcucci Motorsports. He did great work on my car, and treated it as if it were his own. He made it his priority to make sure that I was happy with the results. I have no reservations recommending his work to anyone. I believe that his work is a notch above most others, not just because he has the knowledge needed to do the work, but because he truly enjoys doing the work and is always interested in learning and expanding his expertise.

For this project, Marcucci Motorsports performed a mild Port & Polish and installed Toda Spec A version 2 cams, Toda valvesprings, and a Hondata intake manifold insulator. My car is otherwise stock. Toda claims that their Spec A cams make 6-9 horsepower, but more questioning revealed that this 6-9 horsepower was made on a car that already had an aftermarket intake, exhaust, header and VAFC for tuning. Knowing that, I expected my car (with stock I/H/E and ECU) to make 2-3hp, tops. Maybe an extra couple ponies from the headwork.

Summary: When I first drove the car, the low-end felt pretty much the same, but from 4500 RPMs up, the car definitely felt stronger, and above 7000 it felt like it was breathing much better. The dyno graph below confirms this. The biggest gains (of 6-8 hp) were between 5500 & 7000 RPMs, and a pretty steady 5hp above that. Considering that the airflow is still restricted by the stock plumbing, these results are definitely satisfactory. Anyway... here is the dyno, judge for yourself:

 

looking good! glad to see you got things squared away and to be one of the first to post a dyno of the toda cams. now for the rest of the goodies, most importantly a tunable ecu.

Not sure if you have driven enough w/ the cams to determine this, but do you notice a significant drop - say ~10% - in gas mileage?

 

Should be a gain in mileage as long as he keeps his foot out of it.

As long as the driving is still in closed-loop mode, just about anything that yields a performance gain will net a gain in mileage for the same driving (engine is more efficient).

Hmmm...I had Toda Spec A version 1 installed about 6 months ago, and my gas mileage has consistently decreased from 21mpg to 19 mpg - about 10%. Highway gas mileage seems to be most affected; I get about 23-24 mpg vs. 29mpg before. Also, there's little difference in gas mileage between casual driving and aggressive driving...maybe 2-3 mpg difference. I am running Mugen ECU and dyno shows A/F is between 12.5 to 13:1 across the rpm range...so I don't think I am running too rich.

I was just wondering if the gas milage decrease is consistent w/ others who have Toda cams...

Ben, I get the same with Mugen ECU and Toda Ver1 Cams. I probably get a little less then 200 miles to the tank.

I'm curious...if you never expected to see more than 2-3 hp, why did you spend the money for such a small gain when you could have had larger gains for the same money and different products?
