S2000 vs. M3
Although I've had my car for a few months this weekend my brother and I really went at it. When we previously raced it was when my car was still not yet fully broken in (under 3500 mi) and he killed me with four passengers in his car and one in mine. When I say killed, I mean I got a good start from a roll and he pulled past me and kept going. Another problem is that it was from about a 5 mph roll, so I was nowhere near where I should have been in the powerband (although I didn't know it at the time). Unfortunately my friend's site, which hosts the video of that race, is down so you won't be able to see it
.
So the other day it was a sunny day and we went at it from a launch. Keep in mind he has plenty of mods on his car, the most relevant to this race are: intake, exhaust, lightweight flywheel, chip, and shortshifter. He was carrying one passenger and I had none. We're both running fairly light 18"s. Another point is that he has a '99, and it seems to me from a lot of observation of his car as well as others, that '99s seem to come with a very strong engine.
Anyway.. on to the race:
We lined up and launched our cars. I did it feathering the gas between 6500-7000 and he from about 4000. Both of us had a little problem with traction, I knew I did for sure when my back end started stepping out. I let off the gas slightly then floored it again. From my recollection I got a slight lead in the beginning. In the shift to second he pulled even and third he pulled slightly ahead. We shut down by fourth (maybe going 110) and he had about a car or two on me. Later he said his clutch slipped a little, I didn't think to ask him at what point (probably at the launch).
I'm not really disappointed like I was from the first race where my car was not completely broken in. I've been in the M3 with him while he was keeping pace with 993s and 996s, and I drove it to beat an NSX very clearly (probably pre-97, although it was too dark to be certain) so it's good to know I'm not too far behind.

The length or two he pulled would fit well with the 10-20 hp he picked up from his mods. Also, at high speeds he's got an aero advantage too. Pick up a header and exhaust and you'll probably be dead even through third gear.

Sorry, I misread the post. I have never seen a SC S2K. Still, I doubt it will be much quicker than a stock S2K.
