well, bmw underrates their engines...and the massive low down torque makes up for the weight. The 99 M3 weighs pretty much the same ( a little less then the E46) and has 240HP and keeps up with the S2000 pretty well.

A friend of mine has a 95 290 HP NSX (stock), and his friend has a 2000 S2000 with a neuspeed exhaust. In a drag, the s2k will take it for a little bit but then my friend in the NSX blows it away, no contest.
