Maybe some of you in the S2000/import world don't know the name, but John Lingenfelter is a legend in the world of drag racing and modification of GM sports cars. He ran Lingenfelter Performance Engineering, where his engines were famous for huge power and high reliability. John studied at Penn State, where he received a degree in Mechanical Engineering and Drafting. He was a national champion drag racer as well as a engineer/builder.

John was injured in crash at a race in California quite a while ago, where he broke his neck. Showing improvement, he was moved from Pomona back to Decatur, Indiana for further operations.

He was in a semi-comatose state, and the prognosis was guarded. On December 25, 2003, John Lingenfelter died.

Here is a Guestbook to express condolences to the family:

Rest in Peace, John, and angels speed thee to thy rest.

Road Rage,

Thanks for the post ! I had no idea this happened. I have to admit I have not been a fan of domestic cars, but his hopped up Vettes were something else. I'm sure that everyone in the auto industry will agree.

**Sorry, referring to the wrong person, pay no attention to this post**

Not to be disrespectful, but if i'm not mistaken there has been quite a bit of controversy surrounding Lingenfelter in recent years. Stuff to do with dishonest business practices, selling off parts of customer cars, basically extorting money off unsuspecting victims through his name and past reputation. It's a terrible tragedy for his family and loved ones, no doubt. I'm not trying to belittle that, just pointing out this fact to those who are unaware.

I think you're referring to John Hennessey, who builds Vipers in Texas.

I knew of the his crash, but any news after that was hard to find. Definitely bad news for the automotive world.

He will still be doing this
