Default Looking for OBD2 software for Compaq IPAQ

I'm looking for some OBD2 software for the Compaq IPAQ, so far the only one I can find is:

http://www.obd2.com/win_ce/data/win_ce_pricing.htm

and its like 500 bucks!

I was hoping there would be something cheaper out there for the "Pocket PC" type handheld.

I've found a web site that details how to build the interface cable, so all I need is the software.

Anybody got any ideas? A download (for demo puroposes only of course) would be nice!

Now the question is - which software does the cable design you found work with?

I think several of the OBD2 packages available claim that their "free" software won't work with anybody elses interface cable and vice-versa. I assume this will prevent their software from working with a generic interface cable but don't know for sure.

Where did you find cable instructions? I know of this one:

Thanks for the info "RedondoS2K" that's a much better price. I might even buy it, I'd like to try it first though!

I'll need to look at the cable issue, being an electronics engineer I hope I can solve any issues that might come up. As far as I'm aware the ODBII conforms to the ISO 9141-2 protocol standards, and the serial port is just RS232, so it shouldn't pose to much of a problem. I think the main issue is the different voltage supplies, and therefore you need to de-couple the signals using "opto coulplers" with maybe a little amplification and offset thrown in.
If I come up with a simplified design I let you all know.

Still wish I could get copy of the software for test purposes.

I agree. If you do get it, please post a review. I have been thinking about buying this as well, but without any independent review of the product, I am some what reluctant. BTW, the new Windows version(NOT PockectPC) claims to have a "wireless" capability. I don't know exactly what that means, but sound interesting. It would be ideal if ODB-II signal can be transmitted via Wi-Fi to Laptop or PocketPC, but I don't think that is what they mean by "wireless" capability.

AutoEnginuity gives you a 30-day return period. I have the PC version and like it.

This site has free downloadable software and schematics of the required hardware. They also sell the hardware if you don't want to mess with making your own.
