Does GM really think there are that many loyal GM-car buyers willing to fork over 49 large for this joke of a vehicle? With the mighty 300 hp Vortec V8 that propels it to the quarter mile in only 15.4 sec at 89 mph?
No doubt it will just be a matter of weeks before the SSR will have a multi-thousand dollar rebate slapped on it, as is the case with so many of the other Detroit cars nowadays.
The SSRs will eventually be gathering dust in the showrooms, just like previous Detroit boutique vehicles like the Plymouth Prowler and Ford Thunderbird.
(It looks like the ad maker screwed up and forgot to put 2004 as the model year, but CG says it was intentional.)
I agree with you one hundred percent. I can't imagine that there is that big of a niche for $50,000 compact trucks. For the same price in a few months i highly doubt that they will sell any once the new vette in the showrooms.
It will die the same death as the Prowler only quicker. Had GM brought this out at the same time as the Prowler it might have had some legs but right now it is just a cartoon.

BTW, they start at $41,000 US. But still very overpriced.
Nope! I like it, too. This whole nostalgia thing might be getting a bit worn out, though, but I still like the idea. However, having owned several GM products (some BIG buck ones), I am still NOT convinced that GM can make a reliable, daily driver in the conditions that I would use it. It's priced the way it is simply because they are trying to capitolize on an aging population's desire to get some of their youthful memories back. It IS way overpriced. If it were priced a few grand less than an S2000, it would be put on my list of "to look at". As it stands - ARE THEY NUTS?
