Default Where did you get your car knowledge?

Being a member of this board, there are many people that do their own work on cars and have their own theories. However not all of us went to any school for this, some I am sure did. I am just curious how everyone got what knowledge they know, may it be friends, by breaking stuff and learning how to fix it, just etc. Also if there are any ways to learn things from certain material such as books feel free to post.

I'll start by saying everything I have learned to this point has been on my own in the garage just taking things apart and putting them back together. I have a few friends that are mechanics and learn what I can from them. Trial and error type stuff. I would love to know more of the high performance technical side of things but I can't go to school for it, due to time and money..gotta start making a living sometime. Maybe we all can learn a little more

Dark_Sub_Rosa, I already have LED chromies... Where else can I install them? I already got a ticket for my flashing neon license plate frame and underbody kit, so that's off. I also have some light rope around my dash. Is there some new install I have not yet seen?

Thanks,
Alex

I learned a lot about the industry from car magazines, road & track and car & driver being my favorites. As far as the mechanical aspect, I learned that from high school shop classes, tech manuals and other books. And for S2000 stuff, well, no better place to look than www.s2ki.com!!!

From dad & grandad . I started at 10 yrs old tearing town old lawn mowers in my grandfathers repair shop. Then & graduated to valve jobs & overhauls by age 14. Got paid $1/hr too!

My dad bought old junkers to work on to keep us out of trouble during the summers. Overhauls, body work, painting, brakes, whatever. He taught us & let us learn. Since then I've done 90% of everything myself. Even overhauled an automatic tranny one time.

Got alot of stories about that stuff.
