my friend want's to race Tomorrow. He just ran his car this weekend and got only 14.9sec. He has a Subaru WRX, not the STI. Is that right? I think he is lying about his time, Just to get me to go out and race. He use to have all kinds of car, including an S. I keep telling him from a 20mph roll, but he doesn't want too. Well I said yeah, coz i never clocked my car. So tomorrow we'll see. He has a boost controller, and TEIN EDFC (won't do much for the quarter mile). I'm completely stock, with comptech air filter.

2 questions:

1) My gas is on E now so I'm putting in only a few bucks. I'm thinking of putting in a octane booster, and resetting my ECU. Would that help? Any recommendation which octane booster, how much to put in 1/4 tank (2.5 gal).

2) What do you think my chances are?

14.9 is pretty slow for a stock WRX, They should run mid 14s. 0-60 mph in 5.8 seconds. Yes they have a subaru WRX which has 227 hp, 217 TQ, AWD and weighs 3085.

Don't race him from a dead stop, I wonder if you could take him from a 80 mph roll? If you run him take out the spare, jack, floor mats, run pretty much like you said on empty, make sure the top is up. and please get this on video and post it on here. Good luck.

yeah 14.9 is the number he said. That's why i feel he is telling me that to reel me in, and get me to go.

He thinks it will be close, he use to have and S.

Won't be finding out the rolling out come. We are going to the race track. They open Wednesday in the summer. He said its better then the weekend, coz there are less people. The pro guys are not there to hog the track.

Okay. I wasn't sure if I should put it there coz it's not on the street, and we haven't race yet. Still want to get the octane booster question answered too.

If you're a decent-good driver, even if you raced from a stop, you'd surely win by the end of the 1/4 mi. He may get a jump on you at the line, but you'd reel him in and pass very quickly. I'm stating this for a stock WRX. With a boost controller, it's always easy to turn the boost up and have more hp instantly.

if he doesn't have an work other than the boost controller... let him crank up the boost and see whose car is still running after the race

If there is no money involved why not? (I mean besides the obvious safety risk) You likely have a decent chance. I don't think resetting your ECU will help and octane boost probably wouldn't either (but wouldn't hurt.) I say go for it.

Best of luck

I don't know the specifics but the theory is sound. The octane booster may help with knocking once your engine is all warmed up, hopefully the result would be less knock so the OEM ECU won't have to pull out too much ignition timing, robbing you of power. IMHO, you need the ignition timing as far advanced as the ECU will allow, and that means a very cool intake charge, efficient cooling system, and minimal heat soak. I'm in the process of planning to install my Hondata insulator that's been sitting around for almost 6 months.

Even with octane boost, it may not do anything at all... however if it can control knocking/pinging better than without, it may be the edge you need. The majority of this outcome boils down to the drivers.

Silver808 and smccurry both took it to the tracks last year with smccurry having all the Mugen mods and the times weren't that much different, probably since Silver808 had mad experience in his stock S2k. As I recall, that night was very hot and humid.

Good luck!

Hyper X,

What was their time?

The heat is going to effect the engine alot. I wonder if that's why my friends WRX performed so bad. I still think he is B.S. me with his 14.9. Those are suppose to be pretty quick.
