Porsche OE S02's vs. Honda OE S02's
I have found a pair of 225/50 16 S02's for sale and have found out that they are the Porsche Spec. They are brand new and the only specific difference in specs on the surface are the honda is WR rated for speed and the Porsche is rated slighty higher at ZR. I currently have Stock S02's on the front and wanted to put these on the rear. Will it be safe handling wise? Will the 225 width still be fine since it's an S02? Thanks!
Assuming these are the Porsche 968 OEM the patch is not as wide as the Honda OEM. Other than that I can't really help you. If you want to sell those you can proabbly unload them at the 968 Forums . I plan on putting my Honda S02's on my Porsche for the hell of it some time soon to see if the extra 1/2 inch makes any noticeable difference.

Thanks Mark, I was actually looking at buying the tires, not selling them. They are going for 250 for the pair. If they have a smaller contact patch then i guess they wouldn't be as good as the Honda OE's.
Sorry Jim. I did mean to tell him the tread was different as well. I have them on my 968 and put one of S2000 16" next to it and they defintely are different. Wierd thing is that the Porsche guys in the UK can't get the OEM anymore I think TireRack bought all that were left.

But this is the ghist of what I was talking about from that link:
When Z-speed rated tires were first introduced, they were thought to reflect the highest tire speed rating that would ever be required, in excess of 240 km/h or 149 mph. While Z-speed rated tires are capable of speeds in excess of 149 mph, how far above 149 mph was not identified. That ultimately caused the automotive industry to add W- and Y-speed ratings to identify the tires that meet the needs of new vehicles that have extremely high top-speed capabilities.
W 168 mph 270 km/h Exotic Sports Cars
Y 186 mph 300 km/h Exotic Sports Cars
While a Z-speed rating still often appears in the tire size designation of these tires, such as 225/50ZR16 91W, the Z in the size signifies a maximum speed capability in excess of 149 mph, 240 km/h; the W in the service description indicates the tire's 168 mph, 270 km/h maximum speed.
225/50ZR16 in excess of 149 mph, 240 km/h
205/45ZR17 88W 168 mph, 270 km/h
285/35ZR19 99Y 186 mph, 300 km/h
Most recently, when the Y-speed rating indicated in a service description is enclosed in parentheses, such as 285/35ZR19 (99Y), the top speed of the tire has been tested in excess of 186 mph, 300 km/h indicated by the service description as shown below:
285/35ZR19 99Y 186 mph, 300 km/h
285/35ZR19 (99Y) in excess of 186 mph, 300 km/h
As vehicles have increased their top speeds into Autobahn-only ranges, the tire speed ratings have evolved to better identify the tires capability, allowing drivers to match the speed of their tires with the top speed of their vehicle.
Hope this helps you make a good decision.

It is a totally different tire and I would not recommend them for the S2K. I have had numerous forum members get those tires by mistake and hate the difference in handling.

Finally, the zone manager figured it out. He had bought the 2 tires at different times from Tire Rack and it was when the S2000 first came into the US. (First tire bought Oct 1999)
So stay with the Honda spec tire

Thank you all very much! I have of course gone with the OEM S02's and I LOOVE them. Soo much grip.. to compromise seems silly.
After 5 years of wanting an s2000 I am a very very proud owner. No other car has fit me so well.

I you are looking at an S02 (without an OEM Honda S02 to compare to) how can you tell if it is the Honda S02 or not? Is there any indication? I know if I have both side by side I could see a difference, and if I had my car there I could compare to see. But if someone just showed you a tire (or a picture of one) how do you know which it is?
Thanks!
