Default Front Spoiler and Road Debris

I've been thinking about adding a front spoiler to my car. However, yesterday while driving home on 635 I rethought the idea.

Here's the scene: Typical 635 driving. 70 mph following a minivan about 40 feet back while a middle age soccer-mom applied make-up and talked on a cell phone. Suddenly she swerved and revealed a 4"x4"x8' wooden post lying in the road facing inline with taffic. Cars on both sides; no where to go. I lined up the post between my tires and prayed, trying to remember the ground clearance of a near stock S2K. But then I remembered my Spoon brace (there goes about an inch).

Then, GREAT JOY!!! Nothing hit. Just passed on the excitement to my fellow 635 warriors behind me. I've sure they also enjoyed the caffeine-free rush.

Question: How much clearance do you loose with the front spoiler?

Regards,

Al

A couple I'm looking at don't appear to lower the nose more than an inch or so, they extend more out to guide more air into grill and ducts

I'm worried about getting to low since ours is a daily driver

Well since you are already losing an inch because of the X brace in the middle of the car then losing an inch on the front shouldn't make a difference to clearance. I doubt that spoiler makes you lose more than an inch on the front. Even with the spoiler you wouldn't have hit the debris on 635.

Keep in mind that your ground clearance at the front of the car will often be less than if measured beneath. This is the case when you approach a drive with an incline or dip since your front end will strike before the wheels lift it over. I suspect many curbs and driveways will strike anything placed on the front end. My stock front end has the scrapes to prove this.
I lost my first Kamei spoiler on my RX-7 due to a disintegrating barricade someone else hit. Amazing how much damage a 2x4 can do. The second spoiler was damaged by a cat strike. I have enough problems with stock. I can't imagine worrying about an air dam or lip no matter how nice it might look. You're a more optimistic soul than I...
