Pine Needles/Leaves + Soft Top
Hello,
I purchased my 01 S2k about 3 weeks ago... Today was the first time I have realized this, as we've had great weather until now.
Where the soft top meets the car in the back, there is the lip below the the black trim piece. I knew this, but I never thought of things getting stuck there. Walking to my car after school, I realized it was covered in pine needles. This annoyed me of course, but then I saw they were crammed into this little seal/gap/space... When you wash the car or when it rains, this area must drain or leak someplace to get out...
Will pine needles drain out without a problem, or will they plug the drains? Will they just sit there and rot? I tried getting most with some tweezers, but that seemed tedious...
Please share your thoughts and/or experiences!!!

Welcome to the delightful world of S2000 ownership. Don't fret about the pine needles. Just lower your top about 1/2 way. You'll see that you can just pick up them up with no trouble (or vacuum them, if there are a whole bunch in there).
There are drains for that trough, just aft of the doors. I don't know how good they are at swallowing debris, or passing through what they swallow. It's probably a good idea to get rid of what you can as Destro suggests.
I owned two MR2 Spyders before the S and they had a little plastic "strainer" at the bottom of the funnel where the water drained to on either side. A tube below that led to a "flapper" at the end that let the water out through the bottom of the quarter panel. Typically every fall when the rain began to come down and the leaves started to fall, there was a rash of posts on the Spyder board about peoples cars filling up with water
. The little strainers would get covered with leaves and debris and the flappers would become "glued" shut over the summer as the grime on them dried hard. The water would back up and finally enter the little cubby compartments behind the seats and slosh around...
