Default What is this black crud all over my S2K?

Ever since I got my yellow S, I have noticed this nasty black dust all over it after even a few hours of driving. It settles mostly on the back bumper (where it can be seen) but I noticed it is everywhere when I used a white towel to dust it off. Is this pollution that I never noticed before (this is my first light colored vehicle)? If so, than YUCK! No wonder everyone in Atlanta is developing allergies. If not, could it be something breaking in or wearing out on the car?

It is your tires.. where do you think they go as they wear down?

Actually, I believe it is brake dust. I had the same thing when I got mine. No need for worry. It washes off easily.

Noticed the same thing on mine as well, not sure what it is, nothing thats breaking though.

As John said, I wouldn't worry about it as it does wash off easily. You do wash her once a week at least right?

I think it's just common road grime and pollution. Nothing uncommon of a nice and clean car going for a 5 minute drive and returning back to the garage to find it covered with a layer of dust. That is why, I try not to have the top down during weekdays if I drive the car because of the invisible dirt and dust you breathe in and settles unvisibly on the interior.

Like I said, it is tires. There is no inner fender liners on the rear of an S2000 that comes with pretty soft S02 tires. Rear brakes do not dust that much and road grime would collect more evenly. And believe it or not the condition is much reduced with bald tires.

I agree with cdelena, it's the tires. Albeit, less noticeable on black.
