Default What kind of gasket to use, swapping in new header

Sorry for the dumb question. My buddy just got a header and was wondering what gasket he should use to put it on? Where can he get it? Also where can he get a heatshield? Thanks!

Which header?

AFAIK, only the Mugen and OEM come with a heatshield.

Stock gasket is metal. He can reuse it or get a new one from Jeff aka Hardtopguy.com

"Rick's" new header also come with the ability to re-install the OEM heat shields. All others besides the ones that Asura listed have no attachment points for heat shields. I have the Toda and discovered that a vented hood was necessary to let the heat out.

Here is a pic of the gaskets you might consider getting:

Rick's 6+ is certainly a nice piece. Well thought out to include the functionality of the heatshield if so desired.

Header to cat is teflon, and header to head gasket is a 2 ply metal piece.

I replaced both of mine since I had the header off.

Head to header gasket cost me $9 and I have no idea about the header to exhaust but probably less than $9. I'd say around $16 for both.

OIC, so do you guys think he should go and find a heat shield for the header? If so where can he get one?

This depends on which header. If the header has no attachment points for heat shields, there's no point to the excercise. If it has attachment points, it'll most likely take the OEM shields.

It's not like you can just velcro or zip tie a heat shield to a header.
