Default I bought an electric supercharger!

Now you really didnt think Im stupid enough to actually purchase one of these things, did you!?!??!

Clicky

Do you think theres ANY gain in power from this weedwacker blower motor WHATSOEVER? I mean, any seat of the pants improvment?

I think it is rediculous that they say "civic, accord, s2000" like they are even remotly the same kind of riceburner front drive POS.

Sorry, had to get a few opinions on just how rediculous these things are.

you summed it up there, there just rediculous. I feel bad for people who buy them and think there gonna gain like a 10%- 15% increase in power.

There actually is one legitimate electric supercharger. I don't have a link, but i remember seeing one that ran off a seperate battery, and could be used in 30 second bursts, like NOS. Aparently anything that runs off the alternator won't be powerful enough to do any good, but a battery powered one can give u short bursts of power.

You have to think about how much air the engine (specially the S motor at 9 grand) is SUCKING in.

A small electric motor spinning at full capacity is still probably causing serious airflow RESISTANCE (let alone POWER) to that 9K RPM vacuum.

The insight site debated these for awhile and came to the same conclusion this group did= they don't work.

i think an electric motor would need to draw about 100 amps to provide any boost.

that one that works for 30 seconds requires a separate battery that must be recharged to work again.

this is the magic phrase right here..... BOOST.

an electric fan will provide ZERO boost no matter how hard it's spinning or how much air it's moving. the engine is still going to take in what it needs, and an electric fan is really just a hinderance to proper air flow.

a COMPRESSOR is what you need to get boost. the air is COMPRESSED in an enclosed and sealed compressor housing. you can't do that with a fan, leaf blower, or whatever else you think you can shove into your intake.

They're called Thomas Knight Superchargers, and they work as you described. Legitimate gains, if you can stand all the ribbing and teasing you'll get for installing one on your car.

I'm no turbocharger expert, but last I checked the compressor side of the turbo is just a fan. It is just a fan spinning at 150k rpm.

The turbo doesn't pump air into any sealed container where boost builds and then is released. Well that's not technically true I suppose. The "sealed" container is from the turbo inlet all the way to your intake valves in the cylinder heads.

exactly, it's a sealed system. if the system has a "leak" people loose psi or boost. if you slap a fan into your intake, that's not a sealed system.
