hey Larry, I'm sorry I don't have any rec. for an installer on the west coast, I'm in the east. Anyways, I did want to recommend a Clifford Concept 600 Alarm. It's wonderful. It has everything from a laptop port to adjust the settings to rolling down the windows. it also has a code that you have to put in to keep the car going. if someone tries to steal your car and doesn't know the code, it dies and you have to call Clifford. Um, also a trunk release and you can turn on your headlights. And most important, dual proximity for when you have the top down. Anyways, thought i'd try and help you out. Really top of the line. You can buy it at HiFiBuys and it cost $600.00 including installation. Trust me, it's worth it.

I got this recommendation from What The today.

Sound Innovations
30872 Huntwood Ave # 2. Hayward, CA

I've been looking at the Clifford alarm, the 8000 series. It has all the same features and I've been quoted $570 - $650 in Concord area. I'm going to check with this place and see what they will do. Maybe a group buy

Perhaps this is bad etiquette but I'd like to piggyback onto this thread and ask for similar recommendations on the peninsula. Preferably between redwood city and mountain view. Thanks!

OK, I just saw this other reply... Seriously, how many people are looking for an alarm and would be willing to drive to Hayward to have them installed? If I remember correctly What The has an incredible sound system that was installed by these guys. With 3 of us already maybe we can get a better price??

Would the Clifford 8000 series work for you guys? It has all the features listed below, these are what I'm looking for; others (such as window roll-up) can be added. Or for a little extra the 9000 series includes all these and adds the ability to control the headlights. (I was quoted about another $100). let me know I'm going to call this guy tomorrow anyway, maybe I can set something up.

Battery backup/horn
2 zone proximity sensor (outside the car/inside the car)
shock sensors
5 or 8 total zones on the unit (1-hood, 2-doors, 3-trunk,4-proximity inside, etc...)
BlackJax - anti car jacking
ignition kill
starter kill
trunk pop
door unlock on remote
doors lock when started/unlock when turned off
valet code button - not a switch
and kewl carbon fiber look remote...

Hey What the!! I guess we just cross posted!

Thanx for jumping in. this is the guy that did all your audio installs as well?? If so, I'm definitely impressed...

Thanx for jumping in. I'm going to call him tomorrow to see about my alarm, but if you want to let him know I'll be calling and see what his thoughts are, that would be great!!!

I would be willing to make the drive if the price is right. A few questions though:

Can you trunk pop with the remote?
Can you disable things like the automatic door locking, exterior proximity? (I hate both of those)
How does the BlackJax work?
Does it have the laptop hookup too?

Yes mine pops the trunk.

yes you can disable/enable auto door locking, one/both proximity sensors.

BlackJax info from Clifford Website:
Vehicle theft is higher today than ever before. In fact, just driving down the street puts you at the mercy of criminals who care more about the value of your vehicle than the value of your life. Whether someone steals your vehicle from a parking lot or even at gunpoint, you need a safe, effective and affordable way to get your vehicle back before it gets to the "chop-shop."

With BlackJax, now you can. BlackJax instantly recognizes carjacking attempts. First it ensures that you need do nothing except get away from this life-threatening situation. Then it sets the trap. Shortly after the carjacker drives away, BlackJax dynamically shuts down the engine and immobilizes your vehicle when it's at a safe distance. Even if your vehicle is stolen out of a parking lot by a thief or joy-rider, the same scenario will occur.

Your car is totally immobilized, no tampering or attempt to restart it will work. With the lights flashing and the siren blaring, the thief has no choice but to run. Once he's gone, you walk a block or two to your car, enter your secret code, and safely recover your car with or without police assistance.

Sabotage-Proof Operation
UltraSecure Coded Valet Mode
$2,000 Vehicle Theft Protection Guarantee
Lifetime Warranty

Yes it has a laptop hookup. That is how all the features are enabled/disabled.

hey What the, just wanted to add a little info...

Actually, most of the features can be programmed with the remote as well. there's the "basic remote" which does limited changes on the fly, and the "master" remote which does more changes.

The blackJax requires you to type in your code when you get in the car and start it, once the door opens, the alarm recognizes this, and you need to enter your code again if not, the blackjax waits until the car stops, and then shuts it down and starts the alarm... At least that's how it was explained to me...

yup exactly how it works. It will give you a couple of reminder/warning chirps just in case you forget to enter the code. It waits till the car rpm's drop under 2K or so then kills the engine. Pretty slick and yes it works very well. It may seem like a pain to enter the code in everytime, but you get used to it very quickly. Small price to pay for protection as good as this. (BlackJax can also be disabled at the users discretion).
