Default My iPod integration setup

Just thought I would throw up a topic on my new Denison ICE Link Setup since I love it so much, and I have not seen any posts about it.

Basically the Denison ICE Link uses a proprietary converter to have your HU (factory or not) use your iPod like a CD Changer. It provides power, and on/off functionality as well as it has 2 modes of operation. The first is the Denison mode, which uses the CD Track forward, and backward buttons to advance tracks in your iPod DB. Also radio station buttons can be used to select playlists but only the first 6. The problem with this mode is that its one track at a time. Im not sure what I was missing in how to get this mode to be truly useful. However for me and my 20G iPod it was totally useless.

The Second mode is manual control. In this setup the converter will still allow you to interface with the ipod for power and output control... That is to say that if you hit the change output button on the dash, the converter will power down your iPod when your stereo starts to play the CD or the radio or whatever... iPod control in the second mode is just like using your iPod with iTrip or headphones. The iPod functions normally, and the ICE link is your connection to the HU. The ICE link uses the 3G iPod connector for sound, power, and control interface in the cradle.

Overall I give the ICE Link 10 stars, the audio quality is amazing, fit and finish is A+ and it fits lovely into the 05 center console spot under the lil door...

Very nice. I've been waiting for some user feedback on this.

What headunit are you using it with? I'll be using it with a Sony and am wondering about the track name display.

did you just run the wires under the console? did you have to drill a little hole in the cupholder thingy?

I didnt do the install, however the wires were run under the console, and there is a little square shaped hole cut in the cupholder thingy. For the iPod lovers, there is nothing better..

I looked at the monster setup, and i just could not handle not being able to contol things with the iPod...

I have the Monster eight frequency FM transmitter and it picks up static and at best is FM quality sound. Also when on road trips one has to constantly search out a "blank" frequency that is not being used.

If you don't mind me asking where did you buy it? How much did you pay for it? and where did you have the install done?

We have some road trips coming up and I really would like to have the Digital Quality sound, as well as being able to control it from the fingertip controls.

Thanks for the info.

Yeah, I used the iTrip on my iPod for a long time, for my road trip (I bought my car in Washington state, and drove it to Orlando FL last week) I had to use the iTrip bcs I couldnt get the ICE link installed yet... It was not too bad, its really only metro areas that are super crappy. However the volume, and sound quality are ALWAYS limted by the FM transmitter.

When I mentioned the monster setup, I was referring to the iCruze setup that is a direct connection too. The problem is that the iPod is out of reach, and you have to use their little display thing to see what is happening. IMHO the Dension unit was far superior in this respect.

As for your questions I dont mind at all, it was $199 and some change I think, and I paid Best Buy to install it So the grand total was something like $301 or so with tax and all that.

If you cant live without your iPod the ICE Link is the way to go worth every penny.

I paid $110 for Blitzsafe's adapter from autotoys.com and will install today. don't have an IPOD so ICElink is not an option for me. I tried the FM transmitter thing, and it sucked compared to direct plug-in.
