Default Advice for best 6 1/2 speakers

What are the best speakers that are 6 1/2? I don't care if they are 1 way or 1000 way, as long as they sound damn good. Trying to keep the price to under $200 a pair. Any suggestions welcome. Thanks

I have the CDT 6.2 components. they can be had for around 200. They are pretty good! Check thezeb.com, thats where i got mine. You will need an amp though.

completely subjective question. Infinity Reference series are the best, IMO, because they require almost no modification to drop in. They have good highs, but the mids and bass are definitely lacking. Sub is needed. I have heard that Focals are nice, but outta your price range. If you are fimiliar with modifying, I got some Blaupunkt ODCa660's (Retail $195) for $60 shipped. They sound great to me, and they have a sensitivity rating of 92 (which is good if you are running of HU power). You really want something with sensitivity OVER 90 if you are running of HU power.

The big thing is to LISTEN before you buy. Some (MB Quarts to me) sound too bright and harsh on the highs. Some love them and would buy nothing else. Take a trip to best buy, or your local install shop, and ask to listen to a few sets. they should have some models set up for that.

I have been looking at the Alpine spx-177r lately. They have a silk dome tweater which is very smooth...but then again I dont like the harshness of MB Quarts. they retail for 450..ebay price is 180's. I think they sound pretty good for the price and they have a great bass response.

champagne tastes on a beer budget?

unfortunately if the kappas aren't thrilling you, you might need an amp. all of the better component sets require one. the only way you are going to get a good set of speakers to sing is by overpowering them by about 33%. So spend some cabbage on your fronts because as that is the sound stage, and get an amp as well.

Focal KP2 suck on a pizza, but are great in my car.
