how are you guys installing 6.5 speakers? I just got some JL VR650's and they won't fit in the opening at all. Even after I cut the basket. The metal frame for it is too big to slide into the door directly and also into the basket!
I have OVERSIZED 6.5" woofers in the doors. I just made a 3/4" MDF spacer ring. And I do not use the basket. Fit like a glove now. Lucid also sells spacers, so you do not have to make them.

I installed a set of Polk db6500's in my doors, I got them for well under 200 bucks (about $160, I believe) a pair from crutchfield (scratch and dent ). Right now you could also get a 5 1/4 set for the rear at half price if you buy the fronts... no experience with those though.

They were a perfect fit for the woofers, with no effort beyond screwing them in required to install them.

The tweeters fit almost as well in the stock location, I simply used some super sticky stuff to attach the old bracket from the stock tweeter to the back of the new tweeter and screwed it right in.

They sound pretty good, though I expect they'll sound a lot better when I add an amp to drive them.

Just thought I'd add my 0.02 cents on a super easy drop in solution that's not too expensive.

By "their" do you mean factory direct or through a dealer? I didn't see any way to buy them direct for that price.

I guess if they don't sell direct then it would be thru a dealer. You can see if thezeb has it, also check for Don from Island Sound (djdilliodon on the sounddomain speaker forum). I bought my CL-61 set from thezeb and then decided to switch to the titanium tweeters, bought those from Don. Don has really good prices- he can get the EF series near $200 I think.

I would say one thing- the CDTs are available with either silk or titanium tweeters. For the lower end stuff they are 3/4", the higher end models come with the 1" silk dome. I had both the silk and titanium ones (funny story, my original set was mistakenly shipped with one of each) and they sound quite different. Even though I like a smooth sound and everyone says silk is smooth, I definitely preferred the titanium. It had a much more even response and was not harsh, whereas the 3/4" silk only emphasized the extreme highs and had a big hole below that. I understand the 1" silk is much better than the 3/4" silk, but the 3/4" is an easier plug and play mount in the S2000 door. I guess everyone's ear is different though.

I just installed the CDT EF-61CFi/24 with carbon fiber cones, 1" silk tweeters, and their top crossover. I had to make spacers out of 3/4" plywood and ditch the factory baskets. Awesome sound. I'm giving them 200 watts RMS each. I would recommend them to anyone. I had MB Q's (PCE series) in my last car and I couldn't stand the harshness of the highs. The CDT's are very clean and not hard on the ears at all.
