anybody traded in their S for an Evo
thinking of trading in the S for an Evo. I haven't decided if i should wait for the Evo IV or if i should get an '05 Evo. Wondering if anybody has traded in the S for Evo. If so what are the pros and cons in your opinion now that they aren't driving an S anymore. The only thing i can think of is "no convertable" and I wont be looking at my S every time i get out of it after parking it.
I like that fact that the Evo is faster, handles better and its more of
a 4x4 than my S with stock suspension.

So my bud has an Evo VIII ('03) and he has me drive it after every mod. The raw power makes it a blast to drive and the handling is very responsive. I do find the turning radius (it's HUGE compared to the S) annoying and frankly can make the car unwieldy on hill climbs with switchbacks and truly tight turns (you have to do some anticipation, and blind corners will make the rears squeal easily). The turbo is noticably laggy, and to the untrained, will sneak up and bite you in the butt when exiting apexes (on the other hand, you learn to heel-toe faster in that car than in the S
).
I am also NO FAN of the interior. It's a Lancer on the inside (by and large). If the interior is important to you, hold out for an MR.
Still, I reccommend the car highly. Despite it being a (relative) lumbering beast compared to the S: it's almost as fun to drive, leaves you enough room to seat 4, and can be modded cheaply to yield great gains.
FYI, the Evo I'm basing my opinions on can be found at:

My buddy has on '03 evo, I've drive it a few times... I like it... alot more practical, and especially in Chicago, he has no problem with winters...
It's fun... less feel than the S, not AS fun to drive, but I'd take it over the S for longer trips and traffic jams

I have an EVO now and I don't regret the move, however, I do miss my S2000.
I only switched because I hate looking at my car in the garage all winter and it's more practical in terms of seating, trunk space etc.
S2000 pros/cons/observations
lower and lighter center of gravity allows softer ride and tires for similar grip. I only wish the S2000 came as aggressively suspensioned and rubbered as the EVO. In that case I think the S2000 would out handle the EVO in dry weather; but stock for stock the EVO is just as satifisfying in the turns as long as you adjust your driving style.
S2000 looks way better, how can you even compare, no 4 door has a chance.
S2000 drivetrain weaker but much more refined and in tune for track driving. Moving up and down gears happens quicker, easier and any time you ask. EVO feels solid, but is more like a heavy duty Civic transmision.
S2000 Feels light and low, EVO feels high and heavy, but with grippier tires and stiffer suspension and AWD it does handle as well and more types of weather.
S2000 much nicer interior, however, soft top has more maintence and worry.
S2000 is harder to take racing as most tracks don't allow racing without roll bars etc.
S2000 brakes feel better in regular driving, EVO brakes in combo with tires slow things down much better from 100mph plus
S2000 gets admiring stares from all ages, EVO is pretty much admired only by the young and "in general" older people don't understand this car.
S2000 mechanically is cheap to maintain, EVO can be more expensive to maintain.. brake pads, etc, non warranty oil changes all more expensive.
EVO wheels get wicked black within one week! S2000 could go weeks and still only show a light haze compared to my evo. If you have evo you will either replace the pads or look at dirty wheels all the time.
Both cars are similarly noisy inside, just in different ways.
I'm sure you know, EVO wins when it comes to mods.
Some say the EVO clutch is weak. As compared to the S2000 the EVO clutch is stronger(my opinion). I just think the EVO has so much more torque down low under boost that it's just that much easier to burn it.
S2000 no turbo lag which makes it easier and smoother to drive around town. EVO has weak torque before boost kicks in.
EVO is way easier to get a ticket! With the S2k you either have to drop down a gear or 2 to get into the powerband and speed, with the evo you just floor it and it goes, way easier on the highway to point and shoot the car without making a lot of noise, just a little turbo whistle ;-)
Well I could probably go on and on and still not hit the areas you may want to hear about. If there's something specific, let me know.

The cars are so different that I'm glad I'm not in the position to choose between owning one or the other. IMHO you should get the Evo if the negatives of the S2000 are greater than the negatives of the Evo (to you) Same for the positives.
