Sundays are almost always best for me, but I WILL make it for this even if it is Saturday.
Ms Perky, Batguano...I missed this drive earlier in the year, but I had Jay send me the approximate route...I'll list it below.
1. Highway 66N out of Rural Hall, probably about 25 miles. First half is not too curvey but the second half makes up for it.
2. Turn right onto highway 89 for probably 8-10 miles
3. Turn left onto highway 8 north toward Stuart, VA. for about 10-12 miles.
4. Turn left onto highway 103 for about 10 miles.
5. Just before you get into Claudville, VA there is a fairly new Gas station/ convenience store on the left. Turn right onto this country road for about 3-4 miles to the stop sign at Ararat Highway (highway 104).
6. Go straight across onto Squirrel Spur Road. This is the best road on the drive, nice smooth twisties.
7. After you pretty much reach the top of the ridge there are several short accesses to the left onto Blue Ridge Pkwy. Squirrel Spur is paralleling the BR in this section (within a few yards actually).
8. Turn left (South) on Parkway and drive probably 12-15 miles. When you see Orchard Gap turn left at the bottom of the valley onto Wards Gap Road. (There is a real estate office and convenience dtore there... not sure if the road is called Wards Gap on that end... think so though).
Drive down Wards Gap, continue thru Cana, VA and into Mt. Airy
9. Get US 52 S and head back to W/S. This is about 32 miles.
Additionally, Jay has posted a similar route on this thread (https://www.s2ki.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=306138)

Saturday is better for me. I just need to know as soon as possible so I can get the day off for sure. Sometimes I have to work on Saturdays but can get it off if they know ahead of time. If it happens to be on Sunday though, I'll still be able to make it. That would be me and my GF.

Given the horrible dispair in the Gulf Coast region and the depleting gas situation I feel selfish posting about this drive. Perhaps in a few weeks things will be brighter and we will be able to enjoy the drive.
