Default Problems installing Smartire

Has anyone that installed a Smartire system had any problems with tire mounting after strapping in the sensors? My dealer is telling me that they cannot mount the tires on my Mugen MF10 wheels due to clearence problems.

If Jim or anyone else has some experience, please help.

After going to the effort of getting this over from Tirerack and pestering a fellow forum member to help me out with it, I'm faced with the possibility of having to re-sell it or installing it in another car .

There should be no way anyone could not mount this system. The sensors fit in the middle or drop center of the wheel. Mounting the tire doesn't ever touch this area. If that company can't do it let me know and we will give you a better installer.

Problem fixed. It was just another case of the "incompetent dealer striking again...".

Anyway, the system works as advertised. And the new version is reasonably compact, so installation should not pose much of a problem.

The only negative aspect is that it requires a lot of weight to balance the wheels. I can snap a picture later, but in some wheels I have over 50g opposite the sensor. A bit unsightly but not too bad.

Luis, it is good to see you got the system installed.. when I saw your post I was confused because it seemed there was little chance it would not work.

I was thinking that you must be a master at conversion.. I know you are multi-lingual, but does the system display bar for pressure or Celsius for temp? or do you just adapt to PSI and Fahrenheit for some things?

In fact I am not even sure what the common pressure measurement is outside of the US.. is it bar, kg/cm2, or something else?

A question for anyone who knows:

what's the total added weight per wheel (sensor plus balancing weights)?

Is this now the 'new and improved, lighter' version?

Thanks,

Ted

Chris,

It's programmable, so yes you can display temp in Celsius and pressure in Bars.

Bars are commonly used for pressure although the ISO unit is Pascal (.00001 bar) which is 1 Newton per square metre.

I have not made up my mind where to install the display unit. I may have to take it apart to install it with minimum impact.

Ted,

I'd say between 100 to 200g per wheel. But I can give you an exact number later. It's the newer, lighter model.

Luis,

any further thoughts on the new SmarTire system? Did you get the install finalized? Any pictures of the display?

Do you feel that it's a worthwhile addition (for the cost and rotating mass)?

Thanks,

Ted
