Ted,

It works as advertised. Not a lot of weight either, the sensors are 50g and the amount of extra lead required is about the same.

The tough bit is finding a place to install it. I have opted to ditch the headlight washer button and use the space jut behind the ashtray, even considering that that space is also used for the rear window defoster. An alternative place would be on the drivers armrest, but then the display would be all wrong (the car drawing on the display would be facing rearwards, or the text be upside down, did not like any of the options).

I don't mind installing gauges in the cabin, but they must look like they belong not like a stappled on appendage.

I should have it ready by the end of the week and I'll post some pictures then.

One more question, for either Luis or Jim,

which pieces do I need to order to get the second generation system with a better display? Do I want the "Optional 2nd Generation Full Function Display" or the "Optional 2nd Generation Full Function Remote Display"? And do I need the "Optional 2nd Generation Flexible Power Adapter"?

Thanks,

Ted

Ted,

Depends on what you want to do.

I opted for the basic system and optional remote as the basic system doesn't give you actual (digital) readings and the remote makes it easier to install. You can hide the basic unit and just find a place for the remote.

If you do not take the remote version of the full function display then both the basic unit and the display attach together resulting in a bulkier package.

The flexible power adapter is only useful if you are considering a temporary installation, like if you had sensors in multiple cars and carried the main unit over. I don't think sensors are sold separately, though.

Luis,

thanks, that helps a lot. Sounds like I need:

Basic Display System - $229
Optional Full Function Remote Display - $49

Is there anything else I should get (besides installation)?

Nope. You'll need a new balancing job, but you know that. ... and figure out a place for installation. Not an easy feat.

The LCD is a bit strange, it's only visible in certain orientations which limits some installation alternatives. The easy way out is to install it under the dash on any side of the steering wheel. IMO it does not look right though. It's a lot more work, but the armrest on the door panel or just behind the cupholder are my favourite locations.

Luis,

thanks again, can't wait to see what location you decide on. Post pictures!

I ordered the system today, hope to have new tires and the sensors mounted by the end of the week.

Ted,

The car is at the shop right now, so I should have news before the end of the week.

I'm still undecided about install location. I'm leaning back towards the arm rest on the door. The display will be facing backwards but I can always do a "virtual" rotation of the tyres to set them at the proper corner, ignoring the display iconography that signals the front/rear of the vehicle. It needs a plastic frame, as I want the display to be flush or, better still, slightly recessed from the arm rest surface. If it is too hard, then I'll probably install it inside the cup holder loosing valuable space in the process. But I'd rather do that than defacing the cockpit.

Have you received yours?
